Surely him not being fast makes him easier to see?
Dwight McNeil
Re: Dwight McNeil
I see him slowing down every attack is what i see.
I feel bad now I'm going to end up being mean to him just to stick up for my point of view and he doesn't deserve it the poor lad.
Best of luck to him, here's to another set of xg-defying bangers this season.

Re: Dwight McNeil
He's a really good dribbler, progresses the ball well by getting out of tight spaces and dribbling forward, he works hard off the ball and delivers top quality crosses and his corners are generally dangerous.
He's more than just a once every now and then worldie scorer like someone like Gray was for example.
But as you know you're being overly harsh I'm sure you know and recognise all that really.
Re: Dwight McNeil
Hate when our players score bangers.
Really winds me up.
I only celebrate goals with a 0.7xg or higher.

Re: Dwight McNeil
Personally, I get more satisfaction out of DCL missing an 0.76xg chance than I do McNeil lashing one in from 25 yards.
Re: Dwight McNeil
Not good enough for where we want to be, but good enough for where we are.
I expect Moyes to move him on in the next couple of transfer windows.

Re: Dwight McNeil
I think most of you are forgetting the injury the lads just come back from....coupled with the personal turmoil in his life...take some getting over...
Hopefully he's past all that now good pre season and in the words of bob mortimer....and awayyyyy

Re: Dwight McNeil
10 g+a next season I reckon. Injuries allowing
Question is purely whether you think that is good enough for a team wanting to break into the top half.

Re: Dwight McNeil
He would be really really good in the Championship but I think it’s a stretch to say that’s where he belongs.brap2 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 24, 2025 10:47 am No the issue is he literally can't do anything at all with his other foot so is a completely predictable uni directional player with limited ways you can use him.
Has put up good numbers for us tbh, hope over the next year or two he takes a step down to the champ where he would be a really really good player, a cult hero for someone I think. 10+ assists a year, 4-5 screamers.

Re: Dwight McNeil
I still think he’s got a career as an attacking LB.
I know he’s not the fastest off the mark but he’s got a great engine on him and if you could get him in the positions that we always seem to get Mykolenko in then he’d be very dangerous

Re: Dwight McNeil
10 goals plus assists in 15 90s is a pretty good final return for a player who was out of the team for an extended period.
He’s unquestionably one-dimensional since he can’t do much with his right but you feel like he’s going to deliver any time he lines up a pass or shot on his left. His left foot is that good.
Will be curious to see what Moyes has in mind for him. I don’t think he has the pace we want in our attacking midfield trio and his defensive output was down last season but he takes care of the ball and he’s super productive, especially in terms of chance creation. I think he deserves a chance to start but if he slides too much into Sigurdsson territory where he actively slows our attacking play down and does a poor job at the top of the press, he should go to the bench.
I don’t think he plays with the same aversion to the ball as Sigurdsson but he’s only getting older and slower so you never know.
Edited because who the fuck says “unquestionably” twice in two paragraphs.
