Re: The Rebuild
It’s not just about replacements though. Replacements put us back where we were - in the shit. The trajectory of the club is so important right now - more than it has been for many, many years.
Any players we bring in now have to move the dial, even the squad players - and that’s really difficult. You have to convince players who think they should be playing for better teams than Everton that they should play for Everton.

Re: The Rebuild
I think Tete was a nice to have but not top priority. In time, the right back position will have to be addressed, but it doesn’t have to be in this window if the right deal isn’t available.

This practice is specifically the reason Moyes gained the nickname dithering DaveGoaljira wrote: ↑Fri Jul 18, 2025 11:40 am The problem with aiming high and waiting for people who we're not their first choice is that as we've seen time and time before when we eventually miss out on them we're left with overpaying for a panic buy who's not what we wanted or 'We'll go with what we've got'.
Stop chasing the dream. If we can't agree a deal then move on to the next target.
Re: The Rebuild
Yeah, we can't just fill up any spaces with the likes of Cuco Martina, Ruben Vinagre, El Gazi etc. It needs to be squad players who can still come in and contribute and not just in an injury crisis, you want players that are solid rotation options.

Re: The Rebuild
Yeah, we’ve never really had a squad.
The last time we were good (the 80’s) you didn’t need one, the game was slower, and players were fortified by beer, pies and baked beans, and players were told to run off whatever they had.
Since football became a squad game we’ve generally had a paper thin one.

Re: The Rebuild
Yeah we've been linked with 'The Vag' so feel we're still looking to recruit there, but it's not a priority and will depend on what we spend elsewhere.
We also desperately need an LB, so it'll be interesting to see if we manage to address both or end up with just one or the other.
Re: The Rebuild
You can see Moyes doing a bit of a cheap fudge at the end of the window, loaning someone able to cover both the RB/LB positions.AjaxAndy wrote: ↑Fri Jul 18, 2025 12:45 pm Yeah we've been linked with 'The Vag' so feel we're still looking to recruit there, but it's not a priority and will depend on what we spend elsewhere.

Re: The Rebuild
What worries we most so far is that we have all our eggs in the basket of Tarks being healthy and fully able to perform well and be consistently available (after a major injury).
I'm not saying it can't work out fine, I just don't feel great having to count on it.
