Manchester City’s James McAtee heads a list of ambitious summer plans for Everton, who can spend up to £150m under the new Friedkin ownership.

David Moyes wants a right-back, a number-six, a number-eight and a right-winger, having already secured Mark Travers as goalkeeper on a £4m deal from Bournemouth.

Other options for Everton are Juventus' Douglas Luiz, Monaco's Maghnes Akliouche and Freiburg's Merlin Rohl in midfield, Real Sociedad's Takefusa Kubo on the right, and Panathinaikos' Georgios Vagiannidis for right-back.

Sporting are nevertheless expected to push ahead on the latter, and are currently seen as favourites to sign the Greek international.

Such an outlay would represent a considerable statement from Everton ahead of the move to their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, after years of frustration, financial stretch and uncertainty.

The takeover by the Friedkin group has finally brought calm at the club, with the owners now willing to back Moyes after the manner in which he comfortably kept Everton up last season.

None of the planned moves have yet gone beyond initial overtures, and the club must be braced for competition: McAtee is expected to receive interest from clubs in Europe, with Eintracht Frankfurt already circling amid their anticipated sale of Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool.

Feel like we’ve had so many articles of this nature this summer without anything going anywhere?

Yeah, none of those sound lazy, desperate, or cringeworthy. Huzzah!

Yep, about the 3rd or 4th time we've had one of these.

If I was being massively cynical, I'd say it's almost a perfect PR piece for the club. Look at the ambition, look at the calibre of players and the important positions we're going after. We're really trying but PS we've got lots of competition so it might not work.

True.

Wouldn't mind these overtures turning into symphonies.

Seems like a lot of these articles come from the Independent, so I don't know if someone there has a contact at the club or if the club is using the Independent as an outlet to reassure fans that transfers will be coming.

It’s the reality of us being shit for a few years, we’re not the best option for the players we want.

If you want a Luiz, Palhinha, Hackney, Rohl in CM then we’re not their dream option and they’re gonna delay saying yes hoping that a better club comes calling.

If you want to sign Longstaff then yeah you can probably get him sorted within the week.

Looking around the league at clubs around our level I’ve not seen many deals that I’d say we missed out on

I don’t have a clear picture of what kind of player McAtee is. Seems to dabble in a number of positions, like a utility man with possession skills that allow him to get on the pitch for City. Of course, Moyes does like a midfield utility man with an eye for goal in that number 10 slot.

Hackney is such a slam dunk for me. Unless he’s clearly off to United or Spurs and we have no real chance, I’d like to hear more about that rumour.

Not sure if it’s just cos he’s a Manc but I always think he looks like he should be on Coronation Street
