You don't need to that educated in anything football related to work out this was never going to work, just look at the videos of his time in France, that apparently changed him from a 1 million player into a 16 million player in the space of 30ish games. He's slow, ponderous on the ball, in fact his main strengths are something probably only our manager has on his tick sheet in the league, and even he doesn't rate him, big lad, physical, can kick it long and can only control it with his head.
It's another case of having our pants pulled down by an agent, and until we overcome these types of signings no manager will have a chance of success

Feels like we are just taking anyone who fits our budget. Never really what we need and mainly not very good too. Don't see how it gets better when we are constantly adding more players who aren't good enough

I'm assuming we just approach agents with our criteria of, we need a centre back, anything will do, they need a pulse and the selling team have to accept a minimal down payment and the rest staggered over multiple years, with loads of win related clauses. We're happy to pay massively over the odds if you find anyone that agrees to this, do your best.

seemed to me at the time half the forum was dead against him the other half was saying he was better than Don Carlo after the first 5 or so games

i was dead against it but once he was named manager i tried to get behind him even tho i knew it would go badly

it was only after him sacking all the medical staff, brands quiting and forcing digne out and the absolutely pathetic results that we united against him
I disagree. I think we were all against him but some were trying to use his past record as a reason to justify to themselves why not to jump off a bridge. Deep down they were bereft as the rest of us.

Giving Benitez the job was the worst decision in a never ending list of gross incompetency since he took over.
Even by his shambolic standards, this stuck out like a sore thumb.
Despite being told not to do it by all and sundry,as well as the fans vehemently against it, he still appointed him.
Tells you everything you need to know about the man

We got Lindstrom and Ndiaye though and had already sunk £20m in a striker named Beto and god knows we didn't need another Beto

To be fair. The club clearly tried to get an extra right winger/attacking player.

Gnonto
Minteh
Phylogene
Nuamah

All for various reasons didn't happen. Not like we could be choosey given the situation.

We sold Godfrey and replaced him with O'Brien, so it's not like we just randomly added an extra CB to what we had last year.

There has to be a question as to why we need a 4th centre half more than what would maybe be a first choice right back

I still think there was a danger of Branthwaite leaving late in the window and O'Brien was brought in to avoid any potential for going into the season with only Tarks, Keane and Holgate as options at CB. We have 4 players who can all play RB and Thelwell even mentioned this in an interview lately as to why it wasn't a priority over the summer.

Needs to be this summer though, as decent as Young has been we need to jettison him as well as Coleman and bring in a legitimate first choice.

I can play right back. I'm just shit at it. Think there's more questions with thelwell than anyone. He's signed some right shite. Some not ready who might never be. Pretty much all of them haven't been what we've been crying out for

Think come the summer we need a new dof as well as manager

I would agree, is Thelwell an elite DOF? I suspect not. In his defence I would always want to judge someone on their performance in an environment set up to succeed not fail, and what he's had to work with and the way deals have had to be structured which means picking from a very limited pool isn't an environment to succeed in.

But if you look at Brighton and their joined up thinking though I'd love us to bring someone in who can really have a similar impact.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but we should've just kept Holgate rather than loaning him out and paying part of his wage. Got a decent left or right back in would've been so much more beneficial for the squad

Holgate is terrible though. He'll end up playing for a bottom championship club.
