January Transfer Window
Re: January Transfer Window
Yeah not onboard with Zinchenko at all, lots of reasons why he's not someone I'd want. Age, wages, injuries, potentially has a much higher rep than he should have based on playing at City and Arsenal. Kind of the profile we used to look at but should really now be moving on from IMO.

Re: January Transfer Window
Zinchenko's terrible. Forest fans absolutely hate him.
Brennan Johnson does have some qualities that we lack - pace and goal threat - but whenever I watch him I feel like he's a brainless footballer. His decision making and final ball are appalling. So at £35m it would be a definite ''no'' for me.

Re: January Transfer Window
I wonder if our league position will change our approach to this window.
Re: January Transfer Window
Current position shouldn't matter. We should already have targets lined up for full back if we have money available. We should already have an idea whats going on with Beto and if we're bringing in a striker or not.

Re: January Transfer Window
Hopefully now that we are in a stronger position especially compared to 6 months ago, shown progress and still have a realistic chance of qualifying for European football, then it make it slightly easier for transfer targets to want to join us in January, especially if deals can be done as early as possible next month.
Re: January Transfer Window
Potentially a boring view but I wouldn’t even bother with this transfer window unless an incredible opportunity came along for a player that is a top target.
Once we have players back from AFCON and injuries, it will see us through for this season and we can really look to improve in the summer.
We now need quality and that doesn’t really become available at a reasonable price in January. We need a high quality right back and CM, and it’s likely they will arrive in the summer months after the World Cup.

My brother in law is an arsenal fan and says Zinchenko is one of the worst players he’s seen play for them.
Still probably not the worst Ukrainian left back in the league though.

Re: January Transfer Window
I’d have Zinchenko for a discount but only under the pretense that he’d play central midfield and not left back. I think he’s a legit good passer with a high enough work rate to play fullback, which I don’t think has ever been his proper position (really only for Pep who is constantly asking his fullbacks to play narrower and pass the ball a ton).
He’s played relatively little first team club football for his age and it feels like he should be 25-26 and a prime target for a reclamation project. Practically, he’s too old now for a good Everton move to ever materialize.
I’d like to say it would’ve been a different story had we gotten our hands on him when he went to Arsenal but we all know he’d have been wasted by Lampard or Dyche (no way this man is ever letting him near the middle of the park) or whoever anyway.

Always a midfielder, smart and efficient passing and just clever with his decisions. Him in the Ukraine team a few years ago, he was the string-puller.kramer wrote: ↑Wed Dec 31, 2025 2:05 am I’d have Zinchenko for a discount but only under the pretense that he’d play central midfield and not left back. Agree it's probably a bit late, but would have taken him from City easy if we were ever in the position to. Doubt he would have come.

Re: January Transfer Window
Don't mind zinchenko though hes not had a good time of late. The issue is always going to be wages though. He will be on north of 100k a week. Them sort of wages require a sucker to get him a move. That used to be us but hopefully isnt anymore

Re: January Transfer Window
I think our lack of full backs who can regularly contribute in the attacking third of the pitch is a big contributing factor to why we are such low scorers. With wide midfielders who like to cut inside most of the time, overlapping full backs with a bit of pace and ability to put in quality crosses would make a huge difference for us.

Isn't the fact we do have JOB and Patterson who can do a job yet are the 2nd lowest scorers in league, do we not need attacking options? I put the arguement if we had a few more goals in our side we'd be top 4 currently quite comfortably?
We're 'ok' at the back, get some different attacking options in, make a real push for Europe and address both FB's on day 1 of summer window opening?

Re: January Transfer Window
For me thats it. We've got great wingers but they arent the type that are at their best without overlapping full backs. You wonder how good grealish and Ndiaye might have been this season had we provided them the help they neededOxford_blue wrote: ↑Wed Dec 31, 2025 8:17 am I think our lack of full backs who can regularly contribute in the attacking third of the pitch is a big contributing factor to why we are such low scorers. Re: January Transfer Window
theres a great midfielder stuck on the forest bench game in game out
james mcatee who forest stole from us - we wanted mcatee at the time - they bought him from city for 30 mill
excellent midfielder wasted at forest and his career has just stalled there this season
would add and improve our midfield

Re: January Transfer Window
I did not realise how old Zinchenko is! Yeah, he’s the sort of profile you’d only take on a free now as a squad filler.
