Why is it? He's not being paid, we're just helping him with his recovery. If he can prove fitness we might make him an offer. I see nothing wrong with that. In fact, it's a bloody good, human thing we're doing.

He hasn't proved his fitness. That was pre season. It's October and he's injured again. It's lovely but it's probably not how you run a football team.

There's loads of players over the years who've trained with their former clubs whilst out of contract to stay in shape while they find a new team, I don't see how this is any different really.

We're not paying him but have identified a young person with mental health problems and instead of throwing him on the scrap heap to potentially sit in a house somewhere and huff nitrus or top himself we've let him use our facilities and staff to help him get back on his feet.

It's costing us nothing and as long as it's not taking away something a contracted player needs them there's absolutely no impact on the team.

I'd much rather read Dele has had another muscle set back then read he's overdosed on sleeping pills and the funeral is next week.

It's normally over the summer. How long before you start thinking it's a bit daft. October now. You okay him still doing this next year or next season

Player who took 10m in wages and contributed zero. I'm really not that bothered 1 way or the other but I really don't feel they are being honest with us. He's been out 18 months now. Probably been on and off grass for at least 12 of them despite never playing a game. I think my annoyance comes with the pretence we might offer him a contract. The questions of when he's back. He's never coming back we are just helping someone get well. I'd rather they just say that

It's both doing the right thing and seeing if it leads to a contract should things pan out that way.

Would I be happy with the same thing in a year's time? Yes totally, it doesn't cost the club anything. In fact if we are still in the same place then I'd hope we were offering to put him through his coaching badges and trying to help him find something to move on to that'll keep him on the straight and narrow.

Re: Dele

I'm very much someone who wants the club to act more like a top club and be ruthless and stop all the sentimental shite at times.

But this is not one of those moments.

Him using the facilities, being around people he is comfortable with etc isn't costing us anything. He isn't interrupting or hindering the other players

There is literally no negative reasons for him not to be here

Supporting him and offering him space and friendship is vital at the min and it's a really good thing.

Yeah maybe he will never be fit enough to be offered a contract from a prem league team but maybe lower league or a team in Europe somewhere where expectations and demand is less.

We are supporting this journey for him and that's really fucking great

I’m saddened that someone actually has to point that out.

Do you think us offering him helping hand is in some way causing detriment elsewhere?

As long as he’s not getting paid there’s no issue.

Not into it myself.

Nothing to do with us

He's a multi multi millionaire, he can train in Hawaii if he wants. We're not doing him a favour we're hoping vainly that he comes back. He's not. Staff employed by Everton football club shouldn't spend a minute on him.
