Nah it didn't almost work, they scored 2 and hit the woodwork twice once he made the changes. Nothing about it worked or almost worked, and there's no reason to be kind. He completely fucked us.blueToffee wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2026 9:07 pm Gutted by what that became.
If you were being kind I guess you could say it almost worked, and I think because we got away with it against Mexico and Norway we tried it again.
Feels so much on Tuchel though to make those choices, we seemed to have no outlet after Gordon went off and went further and further back.
It was an even game until we scored and then we just decided to give them the ball...and fucked it up.

Re: World Cup 2026
Argentina only really on top after England scored. It was pretty even otherwise.

We had no intent afterwards. We did it to ourselves with these substitutions.
Re: World Cup 2026
Let's face it, appointing Tuchel as England manager was the FA's equivalent of throwing Dan Burn on as a striker.
Southgate wasn't great but he wasn't so bad to warrant shitting the bed.

Re: World Cup 2026
Disgrace from Tuchel. Absolutely splattered his Y-babes miles too early. Yeah, lets put 6 defenders on with 30 minutes left to play. Great idea.
Hope he gets sacked, just another negative manager.
The best form of defence has, and always will be, attack. Pity we never get to see it from club or country. We could and should have gone for a second, would have killed them off.
Football......what's the point

Re: World Cup 2026
Ultimately Tuchel was brought in to be a winner, and in sport often the end justify the means.
If he'd won the WC stinking the second half of games out, it would've been justified. Now that it hasn't worked, the criticism is justified.
It's like having a Mourinho manager. Everyone can take it if you win, but the moment you don't everyone hates it.
I honestly think he just lost his nerve a bit. There was no need for the comfort blanket of a back 5. Argentina have too much quality outside the box to just invite crosses and shots. You can get away with that v Mexico most of the time.

Re: World Cup 2026
The only consolation here is that Ronaldo must be at home absolutely fuming.
Argentina have built their identity around Messi. Everyone works for him, get him on the ball whenever you can and let him work.
Ronaldo plays like Portugal want to do the same thing with him even though the dynamic is totally different and they’d be better without him.
Still, I hate this. I respect Messi but the rest of the Argentina squad are a bunch of bastards.

And there's always at least 5 mins added time, so you're effectively saying 'come at us for 30 mins, we can take it', when clearly they're too good for us to do that!sam of the south wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2026 9:15 pm Crazy to go 5 at the back at 1-0 with 25 mins left
And then not making changes to rectify it after they hit the post, or after the first goal!
I said to my kid after the first goal they'd get another, you could see it was inevitable, and yet Tuchel, who we brought in to be proactive in games unlike Southgate, just sat there and hoped blind luck would see us through to extra time!
