He was there best player last season though. It's a bit "he's shit anyway" cos he's leaving. He wasn't good enough last time but they did get 24 points so it's not like there was a platform for anyone to be successful

Love end of the window panic, convincing ourselves 76 year old Vardy and Brownhill would be decent, not something we’d have said at the start.

Don’t think anyone’s talking themselves into either player coming and playing a big role.

The likes of Tim, Armstrong, and Chermiti all need stable minutes to develop, not sub appearances or random starts due to injuries. Maybe a random injury is the making of one of them but it’s more likely that they’ll struggle due to the lack of consistent first-team football.

Brownhill and Vardy have been rock solid at this level recently and are way better options for our bench. You know they can step up and do a job when needed.

Squad depth is a luxury we might finally be able to afford if we take advantage of these sorts of players being available.

We had no squad depth under Kenwright (all funds poured into the first eleven to challenge for Europe).

We had unreliable depth under Moshiri (squad depth were inconsistent or crap players we spent too much money on, if they could be relied on, they’d have been starting).

Brownhill and Vardy have both been reliable performers for their respective teams in the recent past. It’s grim if we’re starting them regularly but they’d be two of the best squad players we’ve had since Moyes’ first stint.

I would rather we created squad depth by adding quality at the top of the pile rather than add shite we'll want to see the back of before long

Generally, yeah. It’s the context, though.

We already bought one striker for good money, we’re not buying two when we only start one. The need for a third striker comes from having a prospect who needs a loan but can’t be safely loaned out yet (can’t have a strikerless bench if there’s an injury).

We still need two midfielders and probably only have enough funds for one of them to be starter quality. We have two who need loans, one who can probably be sold to fund future transfers and another with potential to become starter quality and save us a fee.

Two players we’ll be fine seeing the back of but who can do a job when needed this season make plenty of sense.

I just don't see the need for three strikers in general. How many teams have 3 strikers in their squad? Chelsea have about 50 players for every position so they don't count. We should just let Chermiti go out on loan.

It’s a fair point but not really bothered about how other clubs structure their squads.

For me, it’s the easiest position to change to give yourself a boost when you need a goal badly. Fresh legs are always useful against a tired defense, it’s why poor or mediocre players sometimes look quite good off the bench.

When one of DCL or Beto was unfit last season, we basically had to leave the fit one up there for 90’, even when they were tired and couldn’t make runs as aggressively or challenge for 50-50 balls effectively.

We could swerve that situation by just adding one more striker on a free since I don’t think the next man up from the U21s is anywhere near this level.

Charmiti is 21 and half way through his contract. It's reasonable to expect him to be up to filling a place in the squad.
We've a pretty poor record of handling young strikers.

Chermiti, Armstrong and PSR Tim will go out loan on deadline day or the days leading up to it, a, because no need to send them now in case we get injuries, and b, because that’s when we get our last bit of business done.

Only 12 career appearances on the right as per WhoScored.

Looks pretty good.

Not sure if a former Championship star turned failed Marseille player can make it here like…

I just heard his name crop up a few times like.

Clutching at straws here admittedly.

6 open play goals from the right in those 12 starts. Interesting one, for sure.

Just made the move permanent so might be available for a loan if they are getting rid in desperation?
