Especially after all Everton has done for him and stuck by him with all of his injury woes. If he wants to leave he should sign a new contract with the understanding we will let him go if a proper offer comes in

Nah, works both ways. We didn't offer him a new contract through loyalty when he was struggling through the injuries, so there's no reason he should accept a contract at this point just because he seems to have got over them and there's only a year left on his contract.

I've always liked and rated DCL and I think new contract or sell are the only options available this summer. Ordinarily I'd wish him the best but if he goes to the Saudis then I don't wish him any success.

He's not signing a contract for us to sell him, that kind of thing's pretty unheard of. What else would we have done for a player under contract with injuries, terminate his contract, ask him to pay for his treatment himself, tell him to pop down to his local doctor's and make an appointment? We've not treated him any better than any other player with injuries, he doesn't owe us anything and if we can get a decent fee then it's purely business.

Newcastle are in talks with Everton over Dom Calvert-Lewin, as reported by
@LukeEdwardsTele
.
Newcastle are hoping to strike a deal for the striker — however there’s quite a lot of work to do agreeing both a fee & personal terms. Far from a done deal.

Can also reveal that Everton are looking to bring in Yankuba Minteh from #NUFC in the opposite direction.
Both deals would help the clubs with their respective PSR issues.
Newcastle also have very serious interest from one European club for teenage winger Minteh, who has many admirers, but Everton have made their interest tangible.

Judging by the comments the Newcastle fans aren't happy there.

Minteh is highly rated apparently and they are worried about Doms fitness issues.

Presumably Abraham and Broja are the likely candidates to replace him, but Adebayo must be available at a decent price from Luton.

Broja is a big no from me, never understood what the fuss is about him

Think if we get 25-30m for him with a year left on his contract that's a decent deal especially given all his injury problems.

Yes it would be nice if he signed a new contract because he didn't contribute too much the last couple of years but 30m is a reasonable bid and I'm not sure anyone pays a lot more than that even if his contract was longer. Also he's at an age now where it is his last chance to play for a side at the right end or the table

What he's done in recent years isn't hard to replacd

I’d be all over that if the Minteh transfer was permanent tbh.

It’s marginal, because I love Dom, but Minteh is a highly rated RW, and I think I trust the new regime to get a decent CF in.

Yeah Minteh scored 10 in 27 games on loan at Feyenoord last season, aged 19 playing right wing. Scored in the CL and scored 2 goals/1 assist v Ajax.

Would be an exciting one. His Fbref profile looks a little scary (in a good way).

I actually think we might get the better end of the stick here being honest.

As has been said, we shouldn't struggle to replace Doms goal output, we could probably land someone for half the price who would produce more goals, he did go 21 games last season without scoring after all.

I think his off the ball work would be hard but this is the point of a DOF to scout and identify someone with similar attributes.

The one thing I would say, more on a personal level for me, would be that Dom just comes across as being a really LIKEABLE fella, down to earth and genuine.

He's one of those feel good players that you just love having around the club, seeing him play with a smile on his face.

It's that in particular I'd miss and would be hard to replace, he just seems a top fella.

On a purely business related argument if we recruit well enough we might end up better off with someone who is less injury prone.

Seems to tie in with the narrative I'm seeing amongst Newcastle fans currently.

A lot of them seem perplexed by this. They can't seem to understand why they are selling a top young prospect and gaining an injury prone one.
