Manager Merry-Go-Round
Re: Manager Merry-Go-Round
No mention of Clement in that article, which I think is probably a good thing for Lampard.
Re: Manager Merry-Go-Round
Isn't it a bit strange that Graham Potter seems to be getting overlooked/turning down all these appointments? 18 months now since he was sacked by Chelsea, does he think jobs like Leicester are beneath him now or did they not fancy him, maybe he's waiting in the Everton job?
The trouble with the PL is once you're out of the loop, the longer it goes on the more you start getting overlooked for jobs and people with little or no experience start getting jobs before you. It's not like he has as stellar career to back anything up with.
Re: Manager Merry-Go-Round
You'd have to question the decision making of anyone waiting for the Everton job like. Guess sometimes it pays to wait. I'm sure Newcastle would be interested if they sacked Eddie 3 goals Howe. West Ham would have seemed a logical match after they split with Moyes but who knows whether they just wanted a 'name'. Not really sure where else he'd go if he sees a club like Leicester below where he wants to be.Gash wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2024 11:55 am Isn't it a bit strange that Graham Potter seems to be getting overlooked/turning down all these appointments? 18 months now since he was sacked by Chelsea, does he think jobs like Leicester are beneath him now or did they not fancy him, maybe he's waiting in the Everton job?

Potter's probably still being paid by Chelsea and may have to forfeit that when he gets another job.

Re: Manager Merry-Go-Round
He is until this coming summer and he probably can't command the wedge he was on at Chelsea so while I'm not saying he's just putting his feet up to count the cash, he would be daft to take a job he didn't really think was right as it would mean a wage cut as well as a risk and I think he really needs his next job to go well.MayorFarnham wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2024 3:03 pm Potter's probably still being paid by Chelsea and may have to forfeit that when he gets another job.

Re: Manager Merry-Go-Round
I recon he has already been spoken to by new owners. Selling their project to him etc
Re: Manager Merry-Go-Round
We obviously don't know it's the case with Potter but I think I'd question anyone's commitment if they were happy to sit doing nothing taking a wage for failing rather than trying to get their reputation and career back on track as soon as possible.

I meant it more in the sense that you aren't going to accept just anything if you can turn something down which seems dodgy and still be on more money.
If a good job that he fancied had come along I think he would have taken it but the urgency just isn't there.

I don't know. Hes on over 200k a week at Chelsea. Losing 3 quarters of it to join a team who are odds on to be relegated seems a big risk both financially and to his reputation.

Re: Manager Merry-Go-Round
I think football is such a closed shop that none of these managers will accept they are failures. They'll have plenty of reasons why they were let down of given an impossible job. He'll feel fully entitled to every penny of whatever pay-off he's getting.
Re: Manager Merry-Go-Round
If TFG were in contact with Potter it should've been to take over Roma, I think he'd do well there in a more lethargic league, plus he'd have a squad thats a million times more adept at playing the football that he'd want Vs ours

Re: Manager Merry-Go-Round
Wonder how long Rooney has left, conceded 10 in last two games, worst GD by some way in the league and just two points above relegation zone
Re: Manager Merry-Go-Round
Reading Plymouth fans opinions then they're not wanting Rooney out. The home form is good and they know they have the lowest (or 2nd lowest) budget in the league where survival is what's needed
Could see him being sacked if they keep getting absolutely hammered on the road but doesn't seem to be on the horizon.
