Yeah, Soucek is a grim link. Not at all the profile we need. Also looking past his best already.

We need a pure holding player. Gana, KDH, and Tim are all box-to-box players with varying strengths.

Garner is the only player who will naturally shield the defense and hold the midfield together and we’ve set ourselves up to use him at fullback a bit too often.

The profile is clear. We’re so close, don’t fumble it now!

It’s so hard to match up the player to the committee member

I like him.

We need options, squad players, different ways of playing.

Dependant on the fee I’m in

Why can't we just get a proper DM with the profile we need though?

I miss the good old days when we where chasing Big Willy from Portugal.

We just need Mad Guitar Murphy and Blue Lou and we’re getting them next.

It’s a grim signing but it offers experience and a whole different option and way of playing tactically.

He won’t start most games but if we need to change our style, then Soucek provides an outlet.

I'd rather play Garner, Tim, and Armstrong instead of Soucek. Damn it, Moyes...

I’m holding out judgement until I hear the bid and the contract, he’d be the second player in the squad with Garner who can sit and screen which is something we need and it would add to our formidable corner/set piece threat.

Around ten million so we can spend more on a proper right back and I’m fine with it even if I don’t love it

Yes, but on what wages and how long will he be contracted for? Villa getting royally screwed on PSR because of the wages they’re stuck with.

Probably taking a good-sized hit with our shirt sponsorship next season, too. Adding "Prem proven" old man wages might start adding up quickly.

And it 100% will be a contract we can't shift elsewhere. Which basically means "no long-term solution can be added"

Not every signing has to still be with 4 years time in mind. There's a place for experience in any squad looking to consolidate and look upwards after years of struggle.
Just don't fill the squad with them.

I actually wouldn't mind Soucek if it was in addition to a genuine DM signing, Dibling and a starting level RB. No issues with bringing him on a reasonably low fee and building out the squad that way.

But that's quite a big if really

We are already plenty experienced/too old. To my mind, the "exception to the rule" signing (which I heartily approved of) was KDH.

Adding someone as slow and old as Soucek is borderline madness.

I feel like Soucek is probably 263rd on a list of centre mids that we've considered, and with others falling through/too expensive we've reached that point on the list.
