Need to bring on another Mc to improve their chances of getting a goal.

We're still in, just but we're still in.

So annoying to give away a goal like that.

Both teams would be reasonably happy with that you'd think.

I think a good point, and the knockouts start a stage early for Scotland.

Not sure if it's the situation of having to support us or just the way football has gone in recent years but this tournament is genuinely rekindling my love for football. Whether it's down to the teams going for it, the amount of great goals, the support from the stands or maybe even just being away from the likes of Sky and Carragher/Neville going on about the big 6 constantly, I'm just absolutely loving this so far.

I wonder if we'll see TAA again tonight?

I saw some really good analysis of Southgate's tactics and why he wants him in there... Basically in possession we have a diamond of a back 3 (Guehi, Stones, Walker) and Rice just in front... Then Trippier pushes really high up allowing Foden to come inside and then TAA drifts wide to provide width on the right.

It's quite clever and adventurous for a safe manager like Southgate.

The only issue is that TAA can't play in midfield, and certainly not at this level.

The theory behind it is pretty solid, but the execution is hugely problematic because TAA is a right back and not a world class central midfielder.

Really hoping we see something better tonight that doesn't include the myth that is 'Trent the world class midfielder playmaker'.

I think England will be grim in all the group games but win them all.

Last 16 will be interesting because Netherlands/Austria or Belgium are feasible looking opponents (though could easily be someone like Czech Republic)

If Southgate doesn’t change something to sort the left hand side then we’re fucked in the later stages - to a lesser extent the TAA problem is just as bad.

Line up should be:

Pickford

Walker Stones Guehi Shaw

Rice Bellingham

Saka Foden Gordon

Kane

Even if some in there are “worse” players, we’ll look so much better for playing players in their actual positions.

TAA for Walker if we’re chasing a game and Trippier for Shaw if he’s not fit yet.
