Re: Next Everton Manager
Im not sure we do, Mykolenko is pretty poor, despite playing ok so far this season I dont think Ashley Young starts for any other team in the league, Tarks is a throw back to the 90's, hes solid, puts is body on the line etc, but there isnt that much more to his game, which leave Branthwaite. Branthwaite is the best of an average bunch, but even he is looking a bit average this season, the 70m people thought hes worth seems a bit of a pipe dream atm, we'd do well to get half thatKerryblueboy wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 9:03 am We have decent defenders decent players for most areas of the pitch just not players who want or can play the stupid tactics they are being asked to play
Re: Next Everton Manager
There are lots of reasons why he might, no real chance of going down, much better squad, recent European success, you then compare that too us. Relegation battle last 3 years, shit for the last 10-15 years, squad is pathetic, but, every player is out of contract in the summer and we're moving to the best stadium in the league in the summer, compared to plying your trade at a soulless bowl at WH.
Pros and cons, but I think the potential upside of getting it right with us, is so much bigger than WH. That said, I dont think hes that great so hope he goes to WH
Re: Next Everton Manager
West Ham have a far better team than we do and if he's been promised money to spend in january then he'd be mad to choose us over them.
Re: Next Everton Manager
It really depends what he’s looking for, and what the owners are looking for.
I get the sense that Graham Potter wants a long-term project that he can put his stamp on, and to be honest, both Everton and West Ham could be chosen for this. Both have great fan bases, with relatively low short term expectations, but who would like to see progress over the medium term to match their ambition.
Arguably, West Ham is a tougher ask, because they have spent quite a bit of money without putting a particularly decent squad together, and so more is expected of them in a shorter period of time. With Everton, he will be given considerable amounts of time, and also resource in the summer.
Re: Next Everton Manager
From what I've seen of Potter, I don't think he fits the playing style profile we're currently looking for in a coach based on that academy article a couple of months back. Depends how flexible he or Thelwell and his staff would be on this philosophy.

“Out of possession of the ball Everton teams are front-foot,” Darlington explains.
“We have dropped the word defending from the model. We changed it to attacking without the ball to get the mentality right.
“We want Everton teams to be high up the pitch, pressing teams, getting the fan off their seat in terms of press. [We want to be] front-foot, aggressive, trying to get the ball high up the pitch, going in waves of support in terms of trying to defend from the front. We want a really aggressive, front foot mentality.
“When we get the ball we don’t want to be a Manchester City type team, a 75 per cent possession team, because it’s not Everton Football Club.
“We call it having controlled, purposeful possession. We have control of games and purposeful possession to get up the pitch.
“We want a bit more guile around us trying to get up the pitch and how we exploit overloads and then when we get there speeding the game up.
“Those are the fundamentals we’re trying to drill into the players. A front-foot mentality, purposeful possession.”

Re: Next Everton Manager
Easily
Better squad
Better recent league positions
Won a European trophy
Easier to attract better players with all that plus being in London
What can we offer? A shit show with a shiny new stadium? Theirs isn’t exactly a crumbling relic

Re: Next Everton Manager
Come on Graham, you don't want to manage at their stadium where you can barely hear the crowd. Come to Bramley Moore where the abuse will be audible
Re: Next Everton Manager
The thing that worries me about Potter is he only managed a 38% win record at Chelsea. Admittedly they were a basket case of a club as we are but they were a basket case with infinitely better players at his disposal than we currently have.
I get that he’d be one to build for the future but If he came in now he’d have to hit the ground running or we’d be in big trouble

Re: Next Everton Manager
Outside of the new stadium which doesn’t really matter it’s hard to see why any manager would choose us over West Ham.
They have a squad of players that’s ready to go and complete for the top seven and they’re pretty much safe.
Here you have a big rebuilding squad and the very really possibility of being in the championship next season.
