Perplexing, tbh.
Read the other week that amortisation renews with a contract renewal. Never heard that before does anyone know if it's even true

Yeah 2 years is baffling, can't for the life of me understand what's gone on there?!

Seems like there’s an option for us to trigger a third year

His agents obviously like moving him about which is common with South Americans.
No brainer.

Although hopefully we benefit when they flip him again in 12 months

If he settles and does well then he'll likely want to stay, don't think we have to worry too much about the length of contract. I doubt he's going to have a Cole Palmer of a 12 months and be sniffing out a title contending team in 12 months.

You're already at zero when the contract runs out, so there'd be nothing to continue amortising?

I suppose, at a push, we could put Alcaraz's (for example) payment over 3 years because it's our option to add the third year.
It just means that third year we're risking paying for an asset that isn't on the books.

Yeah Paddy Boyland has said the club have an option for an additional year.

Really glad this is done. Started 9 league games but only 1 at home (Ipswich) I think. Away form was good in the run in too, I hope he gets more starts at home next year.

No I read that if you sign someone at 12m over 2 years and then renew after a year with a 5 year contract the 6m remaining would then come on over the new 5 year contract rather than just 1 year at 6m as it would be under the old contract

Yeah, that's feasible actually. If you renew during the contract, what is outstanding can be amortised over the new contract.

It’s not a huge fee to be amortised - £12m over 2 years is not an issue. And then if you utilise the contract extension of a year, that becomes £6m in the first year and £3m per year for 2 years. Not bad at all.

Getting him for 3 years (if there is an extension option) feels like a decent amount of time and doesn’t tie him or the club down. Good business.

I heard on a podcast he wasn't apparently a Moyes pick and was from the recruitment team so maybe Moysie isn't 100% on him still... Think the shorter contract is a good incentive to make sure Alcaraz stays on the straight and narrow potentially.

Strange how the deal is quite short term, but let’s see how well he performs in the next 12 months.

It is good we’ve signed him and that’s been confirmed early. Hopefully Moyes can continue to get more from him.
