The Friedkin Group
Re: End of Moshiri - Friedkin, APPROVAL AGREED
I think Dyche keeps us up but I also think that's true for a bunch of different managers we can attract. We're in a good position compared to other clubs. Southampton are dead and buried, Leicester have took a punt on Ruud and Wolves have gone for the Porto guy which says it all.
I would worry about missing out on Potter to West Ham or Newcastle if we waited until the summer before doing anything.

I’m sure the likes of Potter can wait a few more months, it seems he’s being picky about his next move anyway, and I think he’d jump at the chance to come to us, in one respect it’s a dream job for any respectable manager, a new beginning.Shogun wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 6:01 pm I think Dyche keeps us up but I also think that's true for a bunch of different managers we can attract. I’m all for keeping Dyche until the end of his contract, unless we completely collapse, but I doubt that’ll happen.

That's the counter-argument, and I think you can make a good case for either side of it.Shogun wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 6:01 pm I think Dyche keeps us up but I also think that's true for a bunch of different managers we can attract. Being a lame-duck manager also could see performances slide in 2025, but there's risk with any decision (even standing pat).
I just don't want "half in, half out" where we start spending in any significant amount in January, with Dyche still around. That will inevitably lead to waste, and there is ALWAYS opportunity cost that comes along with same.

If we wait until the summer the likes of Leicester, Wolves and Southampton will have no bearing on our thinking. Potter isn't the only option, in fact I'd say he'd be another lazy appointment.Shogun wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 6:01 pm I think Dyche keeps us up but I also think that's true for a bunch of different managers we can attract. Thank goodness this has gone through and Farhad Moshiri is gone, obviously TFG will have to clean up the mess of the previous regime but at least that 8 year spell of incompetency is over.
Re: End of Moshiri - Friedkin, APPROVAL AGREED
This is the main reason I think we have to part ways. A lot of our poor performances recently will have been contributed to by the fact we were seemingly just waiting for someone to come in and sack him.Evertonian in NC wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 6:16 pm Being a lame-duck manager also could see performances slide in 2025, but there's risk with any decision (even standing pat).
The only counter to that I can think of is there's a lot of players playing for the best contract possible next summer. (You'll be able to tell the ones that sign a pre-contract elsewhere as they'll stink the gaff out)

This may work. It is a great read.Trowel wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 4:10 pm Paddy Boyland's write up of how the takeover happened is excellent. Rather than someone copy and paste the whole thing it's well worth a £2 monthly sub you Scrooges.

The gamble with sticking with Dyche unless it gets dire, is the chance the new one doesn't have enough time or the right players
Re: End of Moshiri - Friedkin, APPROVAL AGREED
I think we'd have to make a decision fairly soon but not necessarily after the next 2 matches... Within 3-5 though after.Paddockoldie wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 9:22 pm The gamble with sticking with Dyche unless it gets dire, is the chance the new one doesn't have enough time or the right players
It's not about changing manager that I'm concerned about, it's the possible jumping from one style to a completely different one and a manager with a very set philosophy of playing that way.
Great if it works, hugely costly if it doesn't. I'd rather someone in the middle ground who plays better football but maybe isn't a complete lurch from one way of playing to an idealistic other way.

AA - to me, that sounds like the argument for a Thomas Frank type. Though Potter is reasonably flexible in how he sets up, too.

Literally a clean slate. Very rarely does a football club get a second chance like this.
