England National Team
Re: England National Team
Don't see the point in playing TAA. He's better offensively than Walker but he genuinely is such a liability from a defensive aspect and we have more than enough players in midfield and attack (and the bench) to be breaking sides down that play deep against England.
Konsa has had a decent season even at RB but Trippier has been horrific in his actual position this season which is a concern in the fullback areas. Guehi through injury and whatever hasn't had a great season, Dunk has been playing De Zerbi ball all season and is 56 years old. If he wants to choose Maguire and Stones then cool but Branthwaite should be 3rd choice all day.
The left-back position looks an issue. Think Mitchell should have been called up through necessity, though he does play LWB at Palace which I think makes full-back look better than they actually are.

Re: England National Team
I've definitely got a filter up when it comes to TAA.
I do think he's overrated, and the way the media has built up this Trent character really winds me up. I was listening to the Top10 podcast with Shearer, Micah Richards and Lineker the other day and I think it was Shearer who had him at right back in his best Premier League 11!
Interestingly though, a few interviews on radio 5 this morning were saying he was crap last night and that Southgate doesn't trust him at RB and he's not good enough for midfield so it's not going unnoticed.

Re: England National Team
Obviously we're all a bit biased against him and I think even the most ardent reds would acknowledge that he's not brilliant defensively, but he's an incredibly effective attacking/creative player from deeper positions.
He already has the most assists for a defender ever in the Premier League with 58, at age 25. He's an incredibly talented footballer, much as we all dislike him and the hype around him. He's also a brilliant free kick taker. After KDB he's the best ball striker in the Prem, and his vision is up there with any midfielder in the Prem.
He was at his most effective when Liverpool had a very workmanlike midfield with Henderson and Wijnaldum doing lots of leg work and covering, which then allowed TAA to be more effective going forward, and covered his defensive issues a lot more. Since Liverpool have bought more creative midfielders, there's not been anyone to do the cover work and it's exposed him defensively.
I get that people don't like him or don't like Liverpool, but I think it's a bit mad to ignore what a wildly talented player he is. I also think a really good manager should be able to utilise his talents, and minimise his weaknesses.
If I was England manager, I would play him at right back (apart from certain match ups, like France) and I would give him free reign from that position. I would have my left back tucking in like a third centre back and have them shuffle across the pitch a little, so that you have cover and I would ask Declan Rice to cover slightly more to the right of the pitch in DM, and I think you would have a regular matchwinner at right back in any game.

It’s absolutely hilarious watching him aimlessly fumble around trying to be a defender.

Re: England National Team
His best position? A couple of yards standing behind DCL, watching the ball get thumped into the goal
Re: England National Team
Why have they announced that Maddison has been cut before they announce the full group?
Right decision not to take him, I think.

Re: England National Team
Weird, isn't it? When they've got 6 more to drop too.
He only really picked Maddison for the World Cup because he was hounded into it and even then didn't really play him. Maddison's form hasn't been anywhere near as good as it was then, so it was always likely, but why single him out now?

Re: England National Team
Yeah ,Maddison never got any minute's at the WC either,
Think we can safely say
Trafford
Quensah
Jones
Maddison
?? Depends on if he risks Shaw, Maguire then Jarrad probably misses out. Eze, Bowen Wharton 2 from 3
I'd get rid of Mainoo, Shaw, Toney.

Re: England National Team
I think you need three strikers TBH, even though Toney wouldn't have been my choice to be my third. Wharton and Eze are a must for me. I can defo see him jibbing Jarrad off rather than a 32 year old shitehawk - Dunk
Re: England National Team
You can't get rid of Shaw, he's literally the only actual LB in the entire squad.weimaranerblues wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 9:55 am Yeah ,Maddison never got any minute's at the WC either,

Re: England National Team
Brathwaite is going to start.
He’s too good and Southgate will realise this.
