Beto
Re: Beto
He can deffo keep cool and slot (excuse the pun) when in on goal….the rest of his all round play is err…not the best let’s say…I reckon if he concentrated his game on trying to win headers instead of fouling his marker….he’d be a very good target man…..also if he calmed down when receiving the ball back to goal instead of trying to flick it on or do an bad cruyff turn..it’d help him…
It is noticeable tho that since Moyes has been back….he is holding the ball up slightly better but always passes it backwards…
Lesson No 2: receive the ball back to goal…protect it……lay it off to one of ours…..turn and move to receive…

Re: Beto
Not sure if he'll be gone in the summer but he isn't good enough to start for us at this level. I loved him scoring last night and he's a lot of fun and an easy personality to get behind but if we want to progress as a club then you can't be playing Beto up top every week.
Still slotted against the shite though, so who gives a fuck! They paid about £85m for their donkey up front.

If we keep playing to his strengths and he scores a few more we might actually get our money back.Shogun wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 10:22 am Not sure if he'll be gone in the summer but he isn't good enough to start for us at this level. Re: Beto
£25 million, if he gets to double figures, which seems doable, there should be no problem getting the money back, not least as hes not started hardly any games

Re: Beto
Not sure it's that clear cut that he's leaving in the summer.
We're already having a massive squad turnover naturally with contract expiries, and the players we'll need to replace them with.
I could see Beto staying, not as the main striker, but as a squad player, and a particular profile of striker that will be a useful option in certain tactical scenarios.

And therein lies the conundrum. To be fair to him, I thought last night was his best all-round 90 minutes for us. Especially as every time he jumped for a ball he appeared to get a push/nudge in the back. He worked their defenders hard, his hold-up play was erratic as usual but definitely better and he worked back to win the ball and played it to a blue shirt. Baby steps, but at least in the right direction. His finishing has been a revelation though.

Re: Beto
He's got a great attitude and you love to see him succeed. I've no idea what the plans are for him past this season, but really glad if nothing else he's shown he can do it in the league. He looked absolutely down and out at the start of January before Moyes came in.
You can see why he and Deulofeu played well together too. He probably was running onto those balls across the box Deulofeu put in that we never seemed to figure out how to convert.

Re: Beto
Do you mean he’s the next Pipo Inzaghi and we are gonna win the lot?AjaxAndy wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 8:59 am His all round game is extremely poor for this standard. His flick ons go the opposite way and back towards the halfway line, when he does manage to hold it up he has no understanding of which way to turn and often runs away from where he should be going, he can be easily marked out of a game by just purely not allowing him to run in behind.
I'm not trying to be a downer on him, it's just the plain reality of the situation and at his age there's next to no chance he can develop all the attributes required to be a premier league player.
Made up for him that he's bagged a few as he seems like an extremely lovable guy, and let's face it we really need him right now. I just view any goals he scores between now and the end of the season as hopefully some extra pounds on the price tag when we move him on.
