Romano: ‘At the moment with Chelsea I’m not aware of anything concrete or close. Calvert-Lewin could only be something in the final hours of the window on Friday if they don’t find one of their top targets.

‘I still think he has a chance to stay at Everton, but I want to tell you one thing, but people in the industry will kill me, after the transfer window I will reveal something on a swap deal that didn’t happen for Calvert-Lewin.

‘It was a concrete possibility at the beginning of August, it was never in the media, but I can’t say now, I have to say it in September, so the next episode, don’t forget.’

It is, but you have to wonder what he expects if he’s turning Newcastle down.

Had the chance there to go for a deal that suited everyone but has left the whole situation in limbo

Was it definitely him, I thought we couldnt come to an agreement on valuations, of either Minteh or DCL. I dont think he had the opportunity to turn them down, otherwise it would be a bit bizarre that they are considering bidding again?

Stating the obvious here but, clearly it did not suit everyone.

The whole Newcastle thing was dependent on Wilson going to Saudi as well I thought there will be a bit of a striker merry go round with dcl toney Jackson Duran and broja before the window closes

DCL swap with Wilson doesn't seem that unlikely to have been on the cards.

Would be very Everton to swap for someone who is equally or in fact more injured than DCL in Wilson

Is injured a lot but seems to always come back and find form quickly. He's a 25 game a season player, but scores 10+ in that time.

I probably wouldn't advocate signing him due to his age and the likelihood his injury record will get worse the older he gets, but he'd certainly be more effective than DCL has been in front of goal and available a similar amount of time.

Not having for a second he turned Newcastle down. Newcastle had loads of deals half done in an attempt to avoid ffp problems. Think they realised they could get what they thought was an inflated fee for their player without having to pay an inflated fee for ours. It defies logic that he'd turn them down. Way he's playing he'll be at Bournemouth next season on less money
