Re: Jordan Pickford
Nice to see that he's getting a lot of air time this morning complementing his performance.
He loves those sorts of games doesn't he? And I love him

Re: Jordan Pickford
Defence was organised and solid, and no surprise Pickford looked class. Glad he showed what he can do and silenced the doubters!

Re: Jordan Pickford
Wish he'd come from crosses more often, like he did in this game. He can do it, and it takes so much pressure off.

Re: Jordan Pickford
I wonder if he's being coached/instructed differently under Moyes.
Comes for everything in an England shirt.

Re: Jordan Pickford
Prior to the second half in this game, when they went into a low block, I don't think he's come for any crosses in this tournament.Indiantoffee75 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2026 9:14 am I wonder if he's being coached/instructed differently under Moyes.

Played exactly the same as he does for Everton, but clearly there was an instruction in this game to come for crosses whenever he could once they dropped into a back 5.

Re: Jordan Pickford
Yeah. I think because their strategy was always going to be get crosses in for Jimenez because he’s great at them and Pickford doesn’t come for them - by making Pickford come for them it mitigated their main weapon.Bluedylan1 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2026 10:03 am Prior to the second half in this game, when they went into a low block, I don't think he's come for any crosses in this tournament.

Re: Jordan Pickford
Yeah Pickford was brilliant in this game, but I think it's fair to say his unwillingness to come for crosses and command his box in the rest of the tournament has caused real uncertainty for England throughout the tournament from crosses and set-pieces.Toddacelli wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2026 10:09 am Yeah. England's strategy after the red card was clearly to pack the middle of the pitch, funnel Mexico out wide and back themselves to deal with crosses with the added height of Burn on the pitch, and like you say, there was an emphasis/instruction for Pickford then to punch anything he could.
I'd just like to see him do it more often, especially when we play regularly a deep defence at Everton. Too often he lets balls into his 6 yard area that he could come and claim or punch.
Just to be clear I'm not slagging him off. He had a brilliant game and he's been mostly excellent for England in his career, but this is a way he could still improve his game.

Re: Jordan Pickford
So many journos and commentators are cucks.
They gush all over the floor for big or physically impressive players, regardless of talent.
Re: Jordan Pickford
I reckon there were 3 crosses he punched or palmed away that when watching the replay would have been a potential goal. The defender wasn't getting there and the attacker was, so they were absolutely vital.

Re: Jordan Pickford
It was a world class performance. To perform like that (and like many of the England players did) in that environment at the highest level is something that goes down in history. It wasn’t any ordinary game or atmosphere and he is just at another level when it comes to focus and his attitude/confidence.
He didn’t put a foot wrong and commanded his box superbly to take the pressure off. There were no rash decisions and he was actually even a little calmer than he usually is. The saves were obviously great but I have to be honest that if he didn’t make them then questions would be asked.
Really happy for him.

Re: Jordan Pickford
I think that’s directly contradictory to the fact that he’s kept our heads above water multiple times by having incredible runs of defying the teams sliding xg by performing miracles in goal.AjaxAndy wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2026 3:50 pm Is it any surprise he's generally rock solid when behind a well organised and effective back 4, and when the defence is all over the place he becomes erratic?
His good form for us generally coincides with our defence being extremely solid, and when there's indecision across the backline he becomes more error prone and erratic... Think that'd be the case for most keepers.
When there's indecision in front of you it then causes you to have indecision, or be decisive but in the wrong way because you're trying hard to make up for someone else's shortcoming.
Unfortunately because it's Pickford the media will focus on his issues and not why he might be less solid than normal now we've gone from a very well organised defence under Southgate to a complete mess under Tuchel.
