Re: David Moyes - Confirmed
I can't remember when I last enjoyed watching Everton so much, that first half was great fun.
Re: David Moyes - Confirmed
Maybe the media will stop regurgitating the "he's just another Dyche, football will be the same, etc"
It once again shows the lack of knowledge and severely dipping standards in the mainstream football media these days.

Re: David Moyes - Confirmed
To be fair not many of us expected him to be much different. Think he's hyped to be back here and that goes a long way with players. He's had his ups and downs in his career and probably feels like we are his last big chance to leave a legacy.
Re: David Moyes - Confirmed
Was just happy to see something resembling modern football for the first time in ages.
Loved the three at the back. Lindstrom giving freedom to bomb on with obrien shifting to right back to make a four when needed.
The passing was crisp which meant we could move the ball quick and through the lines which is a thing in modern football apparently so would like to see more of this.
Even when we went direct, the balls were flat with pace and with a view to put DCL in on goal instead of lifted balls down the channels to no one.
We also did this thing where we got the football and passed it to our striker in the box, who then kicked the ball towards the goal.
Moyes didn’t invent the wheel yesterday. A lot of it was quite basic stuff most teams already do in the premier league but at least he’s showed in the last two games he’s up to date with the modern game which i had massive doubts over to be fair to him.
Just hope he continues with it and doesn’t fall back on a negative way of playing which he tends to do.

and that's with the keeper making 2 good saves and one lucky one.
On another day mangala scores, dom gets another 1 or 2 and tarks scores his stooping header.

Re: David Moyes - Confirmed
I do think that we have to consider the opposition when reviewing that first half though, it's hard to differentiate which parts were us playing well and which were Spurs being shockingly bad.
I know you can only play what's in front of you but there won't be many games this season where DCL can dominate a CB duo as much as he did yesterday - or where the backline is so unorganized that we could get in behind them again and again.
Can't see us having the same joy against a well organized Brighton team

Agreed, I've been hesitant to make this point as I don't want it to come across like I'm putting a downer on Moyes, but for me it's similar to the wolves game, we played them at a really good time for us.StirlingBlue wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 3:10 pm I do think that we have to consider the opposition when reviewing that first half though, it's hard to differentiate which parts were us playing well and which were Spurs being shockingly bad.

I don't think we'd have seen that result under dyche though, last season maybe, so although we shouldn't get carried away, I think it is a sign for hope and optimism that we're heading in the right direction.

No, it needs to be said.StirlingBlue wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 3:10 pm I do think that we have to consider the opposition when reviewing that first half though, it's hard to differentiate which parts were us playing well and which were Spurs being shockingly bad.

Improvement for sure but Spurs have poor individual defenders and play a high line which makes them easier to punish than other sides.
I do think we should be mentally prepared for things to look Dychier away from Goodison. Maybe he’s changed some (given West Ham’s ability to counterattack with pace, still to be demonstrated by these players) but Moyes has a history of being cagey and unambitious away and pressing high and using the Goodison intimidation factor at home. It’s a solid enough strategy but does produce underwhelming away results at times.
I still think it’s clear that we are moving in the right direction, adding overlaps to create clean crossing opportunities and getting men closer to DCL’s knockdowns to an already solid defensive structure. Progress probably isn’t going to be linear, though.

I think it's also fair to say that a few days earlier v Villa we had our highest xg since the Bournemouth game, and DCL also had chances in that game against a much stronger team/defence. We also had a stonewall penalty denied in that match which would've increased the xg even more.
Brighton will be a tough game for sure, but there's no way Ange was prepping for JOB being used as a makeshift right-back/third CB hybrid role yesterday to improve our build up and confuse their press, whereas if we had Dyche still in place, anybody who's ever watched football could have told you exactly how we would set up and how we would look to play.
So I think both are true. Yesterday Spurs were the perfect opponents to play, but also Moyes pulled a smart tactical switch that nobody foresaw. Not one Evertonian or pundit has been asking for JOB as a makeshift right back.
Re: David Moyes - Confirmed
I think he’s also shown how important pressuring high up the pitch is for an Everton side playing at home.
I don’t think it’s purely Dyche-is-gone vibes that have created the loud environment of the last couple of matches. Goodison always responds to a side looking to put the opposition under pressure in their own third and getting stuck in.
We’ve really missed that aggression since Moyes left. Other managers have channeled it at times but no one as consistently as Moyes. If Bramley Moore is designed as well as touted and creates crowd noise similar to Goodison, I think this has to be our club identity moving forward.
Moshiri fucked up too much for me to call this his greatest failure but somewhere on the long list of things he did wrong is failing to realize that Goodison boosts an energetic team buzzing around the pitch and putting the opposition under pressure. Think about how many slow, lethargic players and passive managers we employed under him. Horrible stuff.

Re: David Moyes - Confirmed
i dont know about everyone else but after the last few years ive hated supporting everton
with moyes coming back and seeing a small improvement against villa and then yesterdays performance i just feel like everything is going to be ok
i know many didnt want him to come back and wanted a potter type but for me at least i feel like we are finally going in the right direction
we are not going to suddenly beat everyone and there will be times we dont perform or we have to be defensive but i do feel like we finally have a manager who cares enough to demand certain standards are met and will try to win games
i feel 10 stone lighter today a massive weight thats been hanging over me has been lifted somewhat
i cant even describe in words the relief i feel atm
