Wrexham

Post

Back to back to back

Some fucking achievement that like

Some of the hate online because they have famous owners and they've been marketed very well is fucking ridiculous.

The championship is going to be a step to far for them right now I think.

They will finish lower half if not straight back down.

Fucking love what's happened with them to be fair

I just dont get the fairy tale stuff?

If any of the teams in those leagues had that financial backing, then they would also be promoted back to back?

How many teams in League 2 can afford to have 3 ex premier league players??

TBH if they didnt get promoted then that would be an absolute sham, because of the money involved.

Tbf I thought League One would be a step up too far for them. They are annoying though, and they'll be all over Sky next season as well.

However they now don't have a financial advantage, they don't have a player advantage and they have personnel that are in unchartered waters in that league. Let's see how well things go when they have to sack Phil Parkinson (or don't sack him and get relegated).

Yeah I’m not a fan of Wrexham, mainly because I used to live not too far away in Shrewsbury so there is a rivalry between the clubs and it is disheartening seeing Shrewsbury relegated to League Two and had one of the smallest budgets to work with while Wrexham came up from the conference and attracted the likes of Ben Foster.

Not into myself, people weren't into it either when Salford did similar. In the National League and paying League One wages isn't much of a fairlytale.

I see that Paul Mullin's hardly had a start this season but they've no chance of getting rid of him, he's a League Two level player on big wages, best they can hope is they can get a loan somewhere to get some of his wages covered.

It's a fairytale for the fans though isn't it? For this to happen to their club after all the shit they've been through? That's the fairytale.

Just like Newcastle fans fairytale…

I jest

Fair play to how they’ve marketed them and used social media to maximise commercially and expand the appeal, but the fact is they’ve massively outspent every other team they’re competing against, be embarrassing if they hadn’t been promoted every season

I think its great for everyone. In the grand scheme of things it's not taken that much investment capital to do, so actually gives hope that it could happen to anyone.

Well it's not a sports washing project, so that comparison is silly. It's a vanity project sure, and one that's had a lot of money (relative to the club's standing) spent on it. But for Wrexham fans, none of that takes away from this being a fairytale scenario. They wouldn't have believed all of this possible, not in their wildest dreams.

There really is a begrudging of anyone experiencing success, good fortune and happiness in the British psyche. Let them have it, let them enjoy it without this snarky disdain.

I'm sure if it was a sportswashing project, you'd still be saying it was a fairytale for Wrexham fans though even if the club had obviously bought their way to success.

This sort of thing goes against everything great about English (or British, I guess) football. Teams buying their way to the top should never be celebrated.

You can't win without buying your way there any more though. For us to get to a level of competing for anything we'll need to spend far more that Wrexham have done.

The reaction towards them has been overwhelmingly positive over here.

There’s a small minority of people, myself included who are questioning if this is really good for the game as a whole.

Look at the top three in league one. Wrexham and Stockport bankrolled their way up the leagues, Birmingham spending £15m on a striker.

Other teams hardly stand a chance.

I’ve seen it following barrow, bootle and marine. The wealth gap between the haves and have nots is getting bigger. Even further down the pyramid you have teams like Macclesfield operating on a budget ten times bigger than anyone else.

It’s not right that Wrexham can go and sign a premier league goalkeeper to get themselves out of the 5th tier, nor is it right that they can get a striker who was probably three levels above that league.

I personally think this shows the mentality of the country that as long as it’s you, or your team that benefits from the unfairness then it doesn’t matter. Few people actually care about the greater good.
