Phil Neville admits to having strangely mixed emotions when he watched England’s opening World Cup game against the USA.
The Everton captain was watching his team-mate Tim Howard in goal for the States against his former team-mates from the England team, and when Emile Heskey went through on goal Neville admits he wanted Howard to make the save. Mind you, with Heskey’s scoring record that was pretty nailed on anyway.
“It was amazing because Emile Heskey went through one-on-one and you of course want Heskey to score but you also want Tim to make the save!” Neville told evertonfc.com.
“It is a strange one because you know Tim and Landon. I was delighted for the two of them, I thought they were two of the best players on the pitch in that game.
“You watch and you are so proud that you play with these lads and you are also proud that you have played a part in their development as they become top class players. For me, Tim Howard, if he keeps progressing, could be one of the best goal keepers in Europe.”
