Alan Harper

Alan HarperEverton’s “Bertie Bassett” performed enthusiastically in all sorts of positions. Signed from Liverpool for £100k in 1983, Harper was a reliable yet unsung squad member during Howard Kendall’s glory years. He left for Sheffield Wednesday in search of first-team football in 1988 and rejoined Kendall at Manchester City before following his mentor back to Goodison in 1991.

Most successful teams boast someone like Harper. The utility man was no stranger to success. Everton won the FA Cup during Harper’s first seaon and progresses on to capture the league and European Cup Winner’s Cup as well as finishing FA Cup finalists the following term. Few will forget him netting with an audacious lob in the semi-final. He received ever more gold when Everton reclaimed the title in 1987.
