Andy van der Meyde arrived at Everton with a huge reputation but with some injury problems. Despite those problems David Moyes felt it was a gamble worth taking at a small fee of 1.8million. Andy van der Meyde made his name at Ajax where he became recognised as one of the best wingers around. In an Ajax side that contained the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Rafael van der Vaart, van der Meyde showed why there had been plenty of hype about him especially in the 2002/3 season with a series of eye catching displays. This led to his 5million pound move to one of Europe’s other most famous clubs Inter Milan. Andy van der Meyde had a promising start in his first season at Inter Milan but he struggles towards the end of his first season and began to have problems with both form and fitness. After he lost his place in the Inter side van der Meyde struggled to get it back and continued to pick up injuries.
A move to the Premiership followed when he signed for Everton. So far van der Meyde has not been able to re-produce the kind of form which made him a regular for the Dutch national team. This has been mainly down to injuries and he has been restricted to just ten league appearances for his current club. In those 10 games he has shown glimpses of what a terrific player he is. He created several goals in his first few games for the clubs and despite only playing a few games for Everton he has fast become a fans favourite. As a result of this van der Meyde has vowed to show what he can do next season. If van der Meyde can gain his form and fitness then Everton have a really dangerous winger on their hands, one that is capable of causing huge problems for any defenders in the world.
