The theatre impressario with a genuine love for all things Everton has been a club director for 20 years. Most of that time has been spent in the LFC shadow. Kenwright is the face of Everton and, to his ever-lasting credit, invested in the club when no-one else wanted to. On the other hand, he confounded many fans by selling Wayne Rooney and proposing “Destination Kirkby.”

Arguably, Kenwright’s continued presence on the board had served to legitimise the Johnson regime until he bought out his nemesis in 2000. To do so, he relied massively on investment from Paul Gregg. Then, inexplicably, their spat over the King’s Dock project raged for another year. Kenwright recruited David Moyes but failed to finance the club’s ambitions. Most recently he has sought to sell his ownership.
