Do you think Hull just being given promotion would be the fairest way of dealing with this? Boro, despite spygate, did lose pretty convincingly over two legs.

Didn't they lose it at the end of extra time in the second leg? Not exactly convincingly!

I think it's harsh on Hull in terms of having to adjust to a new opposition but at the same time Boro probably would have been given a 3-0 win in both ties if the ruling came a couple of weeks earlier.

Didn't expect the EFL to go that far. 4 point deduction for next season too. Don't think them admitting not only had they done it, but they had done this all season has helped them!

They admitted it had been all season? I actually think its all a bit silly but if its deemed cheating they are probably very lucky to not be out of the championship if they've done it almost 50 times

They admitted 3 offences against Oxford, Ipswich and Boro

Wow. That's quite the reaction from the football league, but I would guess many "neutral" fans would probably lean towards actual punishments for blatant cheating over financial slap on the wrists which are a drop in the ocean for many clubs.

Key thing seems to be that this has been going on for many games (maybe likely a lot of them given their run) not just a one off trying to get a leg up on a playoff. If it were the latter, I'm sure it probably would've been treated less severely with a large fine or such.

Still can't say I expected expulsion and docked points, but if they want other clubs to knock it off I suppose this is the way to do it.

Maybe again given the run, it has been really helpful, but on some level it seems like it really shouldn't give that much of an edge? I guess when teams are of a certain level small details can really add up.

I think it can help with either finding out the fitness level of certain players who maybe are doubtful for the game publicly, and watching whatever set pieces are being worked on.

I wonder if the EFL added the docked points as something to give back on appeal perhaps? So maybe Southampton end up accepting the playoff loss on the provision that the docked points go away or are halved or such?

I hope Boro don’t start whinging about not enough prep time and not fair on fans on short notice etc, I’d just give it to Hull if they did

The second leg Southampton were much better than Boro, IMO. Boro had a strong first half, but it was all Southampton from HT to the end of ET. Wasn't close.

It's obviously good for either Boro or Hull, but from what I've seen of them this season I think either would be fodder to go straight back down.

Southampton looked like they could've made more of a go of it.
