We can probably get Norton-Cuffy at any point, which probably shows he's not actually all that good. So aiming for a Doue or Spence knowing if you can't get them done you can just get the lesser player before the window ends is fairly risk free.Granite wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2026 9:32 am It’s also been said by The Athletic (and others) - that (much like Fofana last summer) - we’re going for a level of player that’s currently above our standing. These players are holding out, waiting for better offers and clubs. We don’t have the pull or can offer the wages to get these deals over the line. That’s not to excuse the club in any way, but that’s why a lot of deals get done later in the window.
Can see how this relates to Doue etc, but there are still dozens of players in the £20m bracket that would jump at the chance of earning £50k p/w in the PL.
Still all comes down to courage of your convictions and bravery in the market.
Obviously the earlier you get players the better, but getting a player a few steps above is still overall far more productive.
I think you still have to aim high and see where the chips fall, it only takes one to agree to a move and you are rewarded for that ambition.
