We don’t even know how much Dwighty was on - had guesstimates from 25k to 77k this week! - and he’s been here 3+ years…
Yet some of you seem to think you know for sure what our new signing is getting.
Yeah a guy who failed at Palace and was shipped out after just 6 months isn't in a strong position to negotiate the same wages.

He'll have taken a hit on them for sure, wouldn't be at all surprised if he's on £75k - £85k per week.

It’s not uncommon for footballers to fail upwards though too. Not many of them at that age voluntarily take a pay cut, and I wouldn’t necessarily blame them for that.

We might of thought the lack of fee was worth the gamble in taking on the wages. Or maybe he was that desperate to leave he was willing to take the hit. We just don’t know at this point, but personally if I was to guess I’d imagine even if he did take a cut it wouldn’t have been by much.

No, it hasn't been reported but it is naive to believe that Johnson accepted a wage cut from a contract he had 4 years left on because he desperately needed to get away from a Palace-team where he was playing almost every match. Its clearly why Everton didn't pay anything in that swap-deal.

Ok so just pure speculation then, as is my assertion that he's on less. Basically no one knows so quoting £110k a week as if fact is basically just guessing

A solid rule to go by: players very rarely take pay cuts.

Nah, successful players I agree... I bet the leagues are full of players who've failed somewhere and had to take less money at their next club though.

It all comes down to your position of strength or weakness in negotiations, and whether you're making a step up or down with the move.

No one knows with Johnson, but I think it's far from a given he's been given the same as at Palace. The fact they were bombing him out after 6 months, and his desperation to leave were hardly positions of strength when it comes to negotiating a deal.

His position of strength is “I have a four year contract on X money, pay me the same (or more) or I’m going nowhere”

If he was happy to stay and not play, instead of come to a bigger club, and play regularly.

I'd doubt the former was all that appealing.

Why do you think he wouldn't play?
He joined Palace in January and played 26 games for them.

Because they were happy to swap him for Dwight McNeil... I think that pretty much shows a incredible desire to not want you at a club.

So the competition for his place is a pretty injury prone player who hasn't been able to get himself off the floor for the last couple of years?
He'd see plenty of the pitch at Palace this year.

He's definitely been told to find a new club like, no doubt about that. But that's a world of difference to Koeman refusing to give Niasse a locker.

I'm not sure what the argument here is... Palace didn't want him, they were so desperate to get rid they swapped him for Dwight fucking McNeil after just 6 months.

Simply that he wasn't over a barrel to take a pay cut.
He'd play over 25 games for Palace next year, i'm very confident of that - even if the McNeil sale went through without him.

Ok, I disagree, mainly because the likelihood of someone playing 25 games when they're so desperate to get rid of him seems unlikely.

Doesn't matter though either way, no one has a clue what he's actually on... I think regardless we got a good deal out of it, and hopefully he goes on to be a really astute singing.
