It’ll be a dull season if a DM with limited passing range is our POTY.

With that said, I do think he’s a good add for:

- Potential balance with Hackney (forward passer with nice upside)
- Added depth enabling us to sell/loan Iroegbunam and/or Armstrong
- The ever-mushy excellent leadership credentials

Now it’s time to sort out the players who are going to create the most chances - that’s a right back plus one or two more wingers depending on what happens with Ndiaye.

A solid signing at £7m. 5 years younger than Gana and Premier league experienced. There's absolutely no shame in being kept out of the team by a player of Declan Rice's quality. We don't have £100m+ to chuck at a single signing, so picking up his understudy for £7m is decent business. He'll do a job and we're going to get 2/3 good seasons out of him. Maybe not a marquee signing, but definitely improves the squad.

Not having signing a 32 year old off the back of hardly playing for a year.

Seems pointless to me and I’d be gutted if Tim has to make way for him.

I’d be cool if this was for cover, or if he ousted Garner because he was performing better than him, but I’m worried they’ll become our mainstay double pivot, and that it will be as unprogressive as it comes

This is it.

I actually think he’ll become one of the first names on the team sheet. Probably show decent leadership qualities and actually prove to be a decent screen for the games we inevitably play Tarks and Keane together.

As you say though, it will be him and Garner together even in home games, which means we’ll end up one of the lowest scorers again as we’ll be attacking with 2-3 players every game.

The point is he can play as a DM and won’t give the ball away constantly being a dope or trying mad stuff.

He can defend space, he’s decent on the ball, he’s cheap, he’s prem level.

It’s a fine signing. It might even be good.

Too slow - can´t defend space - has to play in a low block. Horrible signing - Gana was way more dynamic.

Gana was more dynamic at nearly 40 than most of the league.

Honestly he is slow - but you don’t always need to be a leggy monster to play the 6. Don’t think I’ve ever seen busquets sprint for example.

He might be shite and if he is, well fine £7m wasted, but I like him as a player personally and can see the Moyes 4-1-4-1 coming up.

Sensible head to screen, solid clever player, also decent if limited finishing set pieces (which we have to take advantage of this year).

Happy with this, no risk at 7m only positive as it fills a need, assurance given the little general Gana has moved on. When the finances turn up our transfer spend capacity in a season or two he will be replaced and I think we'll look back on this signing as a good one.

Think this guy will surprise people

Great hair so that is always a good indicator.
