Dibling hasn’t had much of a chance.

I keep saying the fanbase doesn’t have the patience and the club doesn’t create the right environment for young players to succeed. Would love to be proved wrong on this but unfortunately don’t see it.

The fans haven’t got a clue how to deal with these players.

We don't have patience for players who can't contribute when we need players who can contribute. We shouldn't be in a situation where we csnt field a fullback but we've got a 45m winger as sub.

Again you were in the David moyes thread complaining about the same stuff after we drew with west ham

The problem is 2 fold. We needed more now and from what we've seen of all our signings they might never be a profit in any of them. Its a lack of current quality that leads to that lack of patience but mainly it's a complete lack of belief in the scouting and in what we've seen from these players.

So you want players to come in and immediately impress... Great let's go spend £70m on Waltermade, or the same on a winger and left back.

We couldn't so we bought potential. Even when we tried to buy ready made wingers they all turned us down, and we're talking 4-5 here so it's clear we ended up with the best of what was available to us.

We spent on potential as we all asked the club to do. Any ready players would have cost too much or been a bad age profile... It is what is is, we were limited in who we could attract and although we spent a lot we also bought a lot of players for that money given the high turnover in playing staff

You're also writing them all of as 'now' players but it's fairly obvious Dibling will play plenty as the season progresses and I expect Barry to get lots of minutes too.

Moyes said himself he doesn't even play young new signings much for 6 months so they can settle in first, so I think your expectations of players hitting the ground running and an immediacy for impact are higher than they should be.

Well neither are contributing zip and we're currently 8th ATM so maybe hang on more than *checks notes* 250 minutes of prem football before we piss our kecks.

Barry, disappointing to be fair, expected a bit more, but far from writing him off.

Dibling, not even sure why he's in the same conversation, he's hardly played and when he has he hasn't flopped. Has showed tidy feet and I just know he'll be a banger once he gets going. Ndiaye and Grealish keeping him out of the team understandably.

Jamie Vardy would have been better than Barry this year in all likelihood.
But maybe not next year and certainly not the year after that.
Much higher chance of us, at least, getting our money back for Barry - wages included.

This is genuinely what we wanted. This is the cost of what we wanted and is entirely expected.
We may have to underachieve for 2 or 3 years whilst we wait for the roots of the plan to take hold and some shoots to sprout.

As long as underachieving doesn't look anything like a relegation battle we have to hold our nerve and stay the course. It is the *only* way to achieve success in the current climate.

Moyes has constantly said we weren't going to sign all the players we needed (of which there were fecking loads of them) in one window

No problem with aznou at the price. The issue there is we are now still short at left back. Barry has been awful and people are pretending this is what they expected. Its not what the said they expected when he signed and again we are now still short upfront

Dibbling is the 1 that looks closest to a sure thing but again the issue is about desperate needs elsewhere

I don't think it's so much the individuals but more how and where we spent it vs what we needed. I think Barry completely flops though

I guess we'll see where we are in 18 months

Yeah we’re quite an archaic fanbase

to be fair (and i'm the one extolling the virtue of patience with youth), you are right: it didnt feel like Barry was brought in as a project. Felt like we were hoping for him to be a starter.
Or, we may have been wanting to bring in one more experienced striker at the same time and selling Beto.

If the latter, then this is exactly to be expected.

Yeah and whilst we are indeed short elsewhere imagine next season if / when we don't have Grealish and Dibling is on fire after a year of development and settling in under the guidance of his idol... We're going to seriously miss Jack, but actually maybe not as much as you'd think if Dibling gets to the levels he's expected.

Is that bad long term planning or actually much better than not buying him and buying a starting RB for now? No one really knows but I think long term it looks on paper more beneficial.

Barry is probably for me the biggest concern but that's more on Beto for not doing what's expected of him and Moyes being forced to try something different... In reality if Beto was doing even a half competent job Barry would be eased in gently and be given time to develop and learn the Premier League, he only looks so crap because he's being asked to do too much too soon.

Aznou I don't think was ever for now, think we need to file that one under high potential but a year or two away from any meaningful action.
