That Algerian keeper looked terrible. Also, the lacl of.closing down was ridiculous. You give Dwight McNeill the space they gave Messi and he probably scores the first snd third too.
Not the second though. It was his right foot.

Is it me or has the standard of goalkeeping (Cape Verde guy aside) been really poor?
I thought both the Maignan and Mendy weren't great yesterday and then watching the highlights of some other games they've not been great.

Yeah even Courtois made a really weird save the other day where he just palmed it to an attacker.
I think it's probably the ball, as my kid got one and they're not perfectly round. I'd imagine it's making it move in unexpected ways which is why keepers are struggling.

Incredible by Messi.
Even without the goals, he ran that game, at 39.
Best of all time and I don’t think there’s even a debate now.

Watched a video about the ball the other week, and it was interesting.
Like you say, the panels give it a weird feel. In the tests they concluded it'd be great for whipping balls in, but the flight wasnt consistent so we'd be seeing some wild shots and misjudged timings.

Designed on the same base shape as the Jabulani apparently. Not your traditional ball.
I think the keeping has certainly been average.

Yesterday was definitely a day for the big difference makers. Was thinking to myself during that France Senegal first half that Mbappe might actually hinder France, with his seeming lack of hard yards he puts in and the blatant need for him to be the star - then he spectacularly silenced me in that second half
But Mbappe, Haaland and Messi all showed what they can do yesterday, all 3 of their countries look to them for inspiration and they deliver
Hope for the same from Harry Kane for us tonight
But you know when you just have that nagging feeling that Luka Modric is gonna run the show, our man is gonna make a mistake which leads to their winner and spark a national hate campaign to get him out of the team and the ‘Scouse not English’ Red Men are all of a sudden gonna be really invested in the England team and how the goalkeeper is holding them back…well yeah that

Is it just me or is it not weird for Martinez to be loudly singing the Portuguese national anthem?

Looking forward to tonight.
Had my St George’s flag up for the last year in preparation for it.

I reckon either 1-1 or it turns out that this is a tournament too far for Croatia and England have a convincing 3-0 win, followed by massive overreaction to how good England are.
Congo aren't out of this game v Portugal. Getting in to good spaces and just need a bit more conviction, and you've always got a chance of a goal against a Bobby Martinez coached side
