Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
We do need a top quality striker.
Can actually see Alcaraz feeding off knock downs from Dom, think they'd work well.
Yes Dom's injury prone, but he's had a few consistent runs when weve needed him. Moyes will ask him to prove it to him. Could happen.

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
If he's back up to an actually good striker, then we'd only need him for half a dozen games. There's be less strain on him and you'd expect his availability to increase.
Would only want to be paying him backup striker wages though

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
I'd be more than happy if he renewed on 50%. The problem is at that price he'd probably get better offers. If he's still here next season we'll be paying far more than his worth and taking a punt on someone who's not been able to stay fit for years staying fit

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
I'd like to see what Moyes can do with him with good wingers. The terms of any deal are in our favour really
Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
It depends on the terms. A reduced wage deal (never going to happen but I'll carry on anyway), behind the pecking order of Delap for example, and Chermiti to compete with.
He's not going to stay for a reduced wage though is he, it defeats the point of running your contract down to get a big move.

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
I think he ran it down cos he was staying fit for the first time in 3 years, fed up with Dyche ball and thought he’d get a big move. He should be grateful for whatever contract we offer. We owe him nothing and he owes us nothing, but we hold the aces here.
Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Yep 32 this season and 22 last... He'd be absolutely fine coming on for the last 20 mins and starting 10 games a season.
I'd 100% rather this than keep Beto around.
Has to be in addition to a first choice striker coming in though... But DCL leaving and Beto staying would also require a new first choice being signed.
If we're all discussing keeping DCL as a backup / rotation option / 20 mins off the bench then I'm not sure there's much to argue against it tbh when the alternative is let him leave and keep big bad Beto.

He's talking about Yerry MinaAjaxAndy wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 6:19 am Yep 32 this season and 22 last... He'd be absolutely fine coming on for the last 20 mins and starting 10 games a season.

They're the goals scored in the league from Dom each season since he's been here. 16 goals in his last 4 seasons.
Chris Wood and Yoane Wissa have 18 and 16 goals just this season. Mateta has 14. Strand-Larsen has 13. Delap has 12.
16 goals in 4 seasons is just nowhere near enough regardless of the reasons behind it and the other strengths that he does have. Why give him another 2/3 years for the sake of likely about 10 goals at most?

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
If DCL stayed and we signed say Delap for argument sake. It allows us to let Beto leave/Chermiti go on loan.
We are going to buy a forward anyway i feel, i would rather have DCL there than Beto. Although i do love a bit of Beto

Delaps last 3 years. Two of those in the second division. £30m everyone in the country wants him, franchise player.
Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
And the most important part is Dom last scored double figures for us four years ago , whilst Delap currently has 12 goals for a team that wasn’t even competitive in the premier league.
You can’t guarantee Dom can get on the pitch, and when he does you cant guarantee he’s scoring goals.
