Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Better touch, bit of composure, he could have won us the game in the first half
Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
I don't get any of those vibes whatsoever tbh, not so I think he'd have any right to have them given he hasn't been fit for 2 years.
Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
He's in a good spot for negotiations like.
The only doubt most teams would have is his injury record and he's showing so far this season that may no longer be an issue.
Could even go to a club like West Ham.

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
That chance in the first half was so poor couldn’t sort his feet out ran it out for a corner looks a shadow of 2 years ago
Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
He used to try crazy leaps and dives for the ball. Probably one of the reasons why he was mote prone to injury.
I haven't seen him do that this season, which I'm glad of because scoring or not we're a much more functioning side with him in it.

Amazing work ethic, does so much for the team, don't want him to go anywhere but nowhere near good enough in front of goal this season.
I know some people will never see him criticised and will always defend him, but his finishing has been dreadful and on a few occasions already it's cost us points.

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Still have faith he'll get going again. I think these things just happen from time to time with strikers. Wasn't so long ago that Ollie Watkins couldn't hit a barn door and Villa fans despised him. DCL is a similar calibre and think he will get back on it. I'd be more concerned if he wasn't getting himself into the positions to score at all.

Really disappointed with his finishing at the moment
It’s costing us.
Unsure how things get going. Needs a lucky break I suppose

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
I think his career strike average is one in four; a hard working poacher in support and to play off him would be my card
But who...?

Yes this, but I don't think he's ever really been a finisher of note. He's had some good spells, but Carlo was his breakout year, he couldn't really hit a barn door before then.Bluedylan1 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 10:24 pm Amazing work ethic, does so much for the team, don't want him to go anywhere but nowhere near good enough in front of goal this season.

He has improved markedly, and is smart, but less clinical. We do need him for other reasons but he's running at 80% I reckon due to injury prevention. No more of those salmon leaps etc.

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
I'd be less concerned if his poor finishing was just across the last several matches. But this is the third season running where his goals scored have been well below his XG.

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Yeah it's clear the lack of game time, especially extended runs is causing him some serious issues in front of goal.
He's got through that initial phase of adrenaline getting him through games, and he's hit a big slump. It's exactly what you'd expect given his past couple of years.
He's still working hard for the team, and I thought he looked less knackered when he came on today than he did against Spurs, but that touch and instinct isn't there at the moment.
His brain and body are probably flagging badly at this point, but if one goes in I think it'll help massively.
In the meantime we have to be patient as we look a whole lot better with him on the pitch than Beto imo.
