Confident that will sign a replacement CB that we can have more faith in than Keane.
I wouldn't be confident tbh, we need to bring in so many bodies that if we wanted a 4th choice CB the cheapest way to do it would have been to retain Keane.

I reckon we'll go with the 3 we have and hope 2 aren't injured at any one point.

Tbh that makes sense too considering we're not going to be challenging for honours or Europe so we can afford to lose a few games at some point if the worst comes to the worst and we chuck Mykolenko in there.

There's also January if the injuries happen around then... It's not ideal imo but it's also not a position high up in the priority list.

I imagine that’s what the club offered him as well, maybe only half his current wage, so no surprises he said nah I’m off

That’s stupid for a fourth choice CB
Not suggesting we pay him that

Wasting your time. If hes capable about lying about what's been said a couple of posts previously hes not capable of reasonable debate. He's the Donald trump of the forum

It depends what wages we'd be paying him but I think he's worth 40-50k a week. Admittedly the reason he's leaving might be that he wants more than that

At present I think we need a 4th centre half because our 3rd centre half is also our best right back. I just worry about the squad. Our youth system and our first team squad has been decimated. There's only so much that can be replaced in 1 window
Him playing well in two games doesn’t disprove anything.

You don’t hand out contracts because a player played well for a few games.

He has nothing to offer a club like us anymore. His level is championship or promoted premier league team. We’re hopefully moving past these players.

Him still being here is a symptom of how far we’ve regressed over the years. He should have left years ago.

The man who constantly complained about wages for players in the past now advocates giving Keane a new contract a defender who only the promoted teams might take

Surely a promoted premier league level centre back is good enough to be our fourth choice and it's okay saying we don't need 4 and at no time will you miss him but we needed 4 this season

It's not that big a deal. I just think it would be safer if we'd retained him on half(ish) what he's currently getting

Absolutely but not on 80k like you tried to disingenuously imply I'd said

Also let's get this 1 right too. The man who WAS RIGHT to constantly complain about wages for players

We didn’t need four. Only once this season did we need to play the 4th choice centre half.

We always had three fit until tarkowski and Brathwaite got injured.

It’s a silly argument imo. You can look back at a lot of players who were rubbish for us and say they were good as 4th choice or whatever.

Surely we should be happy that the club are now saying to underperforming players, take a pay cut or leave.

I’m very happy to see players like Micheal Keane leave the club. Wouldn’t have even had him on 50k a week.

Come on lads for Christ sake the whole atmosphere of the stadium changes when Keane comes on remember Bournemouth this season and city he is synonymous with the failures of the past 10 years and had to go on to bigger and better things

If he’s wanting a three year deal on 65k there’s not much the club can really do though is there

You seem to make it sound like we’ve made a massive mistake

That's absolutely what we should be saying. Take the pay cut or leave. It's just a shame imo that he didn't take the pay cut. The club obviously agrees or they wouldn't have offered the reduced terms

That's not what I'm saying at all. All I'm saying is it would have been better for the club had he agreed with our valuation of him

Re: The Rebuild

It wouldn’t.

That money can be better spent elsewhere than on Michael Keane sitting on the bench for most of the season.

I doubt they’ll even look for a replacement. I think a lot of these contract offers are basically us saying we don’t really rate you but would be grateful for the bodies so can you take a pay cut please but no worries if not.
