The Rebuild
Re: The Rebuild
Great loan for him that.
Marc robins should have Stoke playing a lot better next season.

I see the comparison in playing styles for sure.StirlingBlue wrote: ↑Sat Jun 21, 2025 6:35 pm I love that everyone is talking like those dodgy signing days are behind us.
Beto is basically the striker version of Bolasie
I don’t think they’re similar as signing decisions.
Beto was a better starting age profile so we have more time to recoup money and he wasn’t displacing a better, younger, cheaper option. We legitimately needed a striker with DCL’s fitness issues.
He’s been useful too, as was Bolasie before he lost his pace to injury. We can do better but we’re not taking a major loss when it comes time to move him on.

I don’t understand the relevance, maybe I need to read further back into thread?StirlingBlue wrote: ↑Sat Jun 21, 2025 6:35 pm I love that everyone is talking like those dodgy signing days are behind us.

Surely, those saying the dodgy deals are behind us are referencing us under the Friedkins. Not sure how Beto fits in as he was bought under Moshiri. Apologies if I’m missing the context here.
Re: The Rebuild
I really don't get why Beto gets a bad rap from some of our fans. Last season alone he's delivered more than most of our recent strikers. Yeah he has limitations, but he's very effective when his strengths are utilised and he proved that with 7 important goals in our last 16 league games. Some of the disrespect towards a player who was a big part of our recovery last season is a bit unfair IMO.

Also it's a similar fee about a decade late and with deferred payments and not offering players whatever money they want. Think we've drove a much harder bargain for a similar quality player
Bolasie always struck me as a player that if the rest of your team was a machine and won consistently, he would be loved as a bit of a manic wildcard on the wings. Think pinning your hopes on him to be the gamechanger you would be disappointed.
Re: The Rebuild
Agree. He's not a world class striker, but he puts a shift in, causes chaos and he can finish. DCL's hold up play is much better, but he couldn't finish his dinner. So which one is more effective?Robioto wrote: ↑Sat Jun 21, 2025 9:24 pm I really don't get why Beto gets a bad rap from some of our fans. Re: The Rebuild
Don’t get the Beto comparisons. He was long down on a list and we only signed him because we didn’t have to pay a fee up front. Dyche didn’t know how to use him and now, under Moyes he is showing what he can do, despite his obvious limitations.

That’s exactly what I meant.777Kidnappings wrote: Good numbers awful moments. I don't think anything more than that is meant of it.
Both Beto and Bolasie have that ungainly/chaotic energy about them but they make things happen even though they sometimes have very poor moments.
Neither has a place in a top side dominating possession

I see the kopites can't resist a comment there. What's wrong with those people?Escalator wrote: ↑Sun Jun 22, 2025 12:00 pm Good article about our £200 million player write offs.

Re: The Rebuild
It's a bit of a nothing article really. The lessons to be learnt are normally selling at the right time or buying players with better age profiles rather than for now. The lessons to be learnt for us is not buy players not good enough on silly contracts. Some of these players best moments for us will be when they leave on frees
