Re: The Rebuild
How can you forget the transfer window where Everton “ruined football” according to celebrated football genius, Paul Merson?

Absofuckinglutely! Is anyone else just counting the minutes to 1st July?Bornblue88 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 26, 2025 10:17 pm I’m gonna absolutely depressed on Tuesday when we don’t sign 5 players
Also, with the amount of work we have to do, I’ll be pretty pissed off if there’s no early deals done that they’ve already been working on behind the scenes.

Re: The Rebuild
Totally depends on his wage/contract demands and if we're going to sign another starting CM but he'd be a useful player in games where we have possession and are expected to break a team down, which is probably 10-15 games a season.
Think of all the times we've seen Garner and Gueye passing the ball to each other repeatedly on the halfway line because they're scared to pass forward - I'd prefer Eriksen in that situation.

Re: The Rebuild
You can definitely cover for a lack of quality with a well organised manager and some peak physical specimens so I see the theory but....
Doucoure has finally left, I don't want to see more of players like him even though he was effective at times.
Re: The Rebuild
Imagine Erikson playing the 10 instead of Doucoure, would be awful. Sure he's got a good touch and can still pick a pass, but his off the ball work would be almost zero. We can't afford to carry players out of possession like that.

Re: The Rebuild
Sure that's true when we've not got the ball and need Doucoure's off the ball work - you'd hope though that after a full summer the target should be to have more of the ball in future.
I think he'd be a solid addition for 10-20 games a year where we are dominating the ball (at times) and not spending all game chasing it and counterattacking
Re: The Rebuild
I think the problem with that is when you have the ball for large parts of the game, you are still susceptible to the counter attack yourself, and so it’s important to have guys that can run to get the ball back quickly. Erikson doesn’t really do that anymore, which is where United struggled last year.StirlingBlue wrote: ↑Fri Jun 27, 2025 11:51 am Sure that's true when we've not got the ball and need Doucoure's off the ball work - you'd hope though that after a full summer the target should be to have more of the ball in future.

Gone are the days that you can have a luxury 10 in the middle dictating play that doesn’t run much. Otherwise let’s just get James back (who by the way is still playing for Colombia at international level).

Re: The Rebuild
for his wages i’d much rather give it to a young player for the 20 cameos he makes a season. 2 goals and 4 assists over the past two seasons is really not worth carrying him. He’s finished imo
Re: The Rebuild
Definitely agree with the more possession argument, but I'd want someone who can still run about and press when we lost it as we aren't going to dominate teams,. we'll turn the ball over and need to be able to at least try and win in back high up the pitch.StirlingBlue wrote: ↑Fri Jun 27, 2025 11:51 am Sure that's true when we've not got the ball and need Doucoure's off the ball work - you'd hope though that after a full summer the target should be to have more of the ball in future.

Moyes wants a fast high press team by reports. (People Who Can Run).

Re: The Rebuild
He's been playing as a deep lying CM so not surprised he's only got a few goals and assists, he'd be in the Garner position not the 10.Bornblue88 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 27, 2025 12:29 pm for his wages i’d much rather give it to a young player for the 20 cameos he makes a season. 2 goals and 4 assists over the past two seasons is really not worth carrying him. Gotta laugh at the idea that you're just gonna find a young player capable of stepping into our team for the free transfer Eriksen would cost, players like that cost £25m+ easily nowadays.
If he's not a fit for Moyes then don't go for him, but given how many players we need to add this summer and our financial situation we're likely gonna sign a couple of veterans on short term deals - it can't all be young exciting players as we can't afford them
