Amadou Onana
Re: Amadou Onana
Onana is a lot better than garner but garner is more suited to the way we play.
I think both get overrated by our fanbase.
But both are good players for us. When you sign somebody like Onana though the expectations will always be a lot higher.

Re: Amadou Onana
Garner certainly plays better with Onana next to him.
Both are similar in age and still both learning.
We'll make a profit on Onana when we eventually flip him so it's a win win.

Re: Amadou Onana
The esk in the guardian January review saying signing a CM is a priority and losing amadou would be alright.
Checks out!

Re: Amadou Onana
Onana will be top class in the future but is still raw and immature in some things he does rolls around a lot and gets caught in possession a bit but when he is tuned in is very good can’t play in a 2 with garner imo as neither are disciplined enough to sit and not fly forward leaving the other exposed
Re: Amadou Onana
Let's face it, we bought Onana to sell him at a profit... So we'll be cashing in as soon as we get an offer that matches what we hoped to flip him for.
He'll not be here long enough for us to see him reach his potential, so if we can get a decent wedge for him then it makes sense to let someone else spend the time and money developing him.
Probably be one of those a few years down the line where we wish we'd kept him, but in reality we never purchased him with that intention, it was always to hopefully flip for large profit as quickly as possible.

Re: Amadou Onana
Unless we have to sell him to keep our heads above water, we need to work out the best time to sell him, preferably after a good period of form, and if we play our cards right we could tap a club like Man U or Chelsea for a big fee, in excess of what he's probably worth at the moment.
If he has a strong 2nd half of the season, the summer might be the right time.

Re: Amadou Onana
I know why don’t we keep him develop him and improve ourselves as a team
All this bollox we only bought him to sell him pure shite from people not in the know but think they are.

Imagine Brighton flapped on Caicedo or Bissouma at the first ask.
Quick get Brownhill and Hendricks in, pocket the change...
Just doesn't inspire. Not that either of those players are bad or would be bad deals, it's just no business you can build on.

Re: Amadou Onana
Erm... Ok if you say so.
It's not like it's very clear we've been buying players of a certain type in the hope of making a decent profit when we move them on, no definitely not obvious, not at all.
Re: Amadou Onana
Brighton are a great example of recruitment and selling at the right time, and I'm probably impatient with someone like Onana as I know he's not here for a long time and he only sees us as a stepping stone.
Hard to invest much in a player like that for me, so if we could get say £60m now I'd move him on.
Maybe if he stays he'll be worth more, but I also wonder how committed he is when he sees us as a stepping stone.
Finding the right time to sell is key, but not just from a development point of view, as we can't have someone here in a year or two time who thinks they're bigger than the club.
Obviously that's speculation in my part about his attitude down the line, but I think players like Lukaku have kind of given me a more negative view on players here that maybe want to be at bigger clubs and can actually attract that interest.
Re: Amadou Onana
Again, people are (understandably) getting ahead of themselves and thinking about building something.
Let’s secure the future of the club first, eh?
Losing £20m a month and can’t seem to get this takeover, over the line.
And when the takeover does happen, that’s when the real austerity will start. Those crooks will be desperate for that Onana cash.

Re: Amadou Onana
Yeah there's no chance we keep Onana and Branthwaite and build a team around them. It'd be absolutely lovely if we were in a position to do so, but we aren't, and that's something people need to get their heads around.Granite wrote: ↑Mon Jan 01, 2024 7:12 pm Again, people are (understandably) getting ahead of themselves and thinking about building something.

The good news is that we've recruited sensibly and will be able to move them at a good / huge profit allowing us to reinvest and buy another set to flip down the line and slowly make progress hopefully both on and off the field as a result.
