The Rebuild
Re: The Rebuild
Under Moyes, it always felt like we were only capable of working on one deal at a time - sequentially.
Feels like he works like it's via logic gates.
If we get choice one then this is the next.
If not then go for option 2 from column 3
If both yes then player 1 from column.....
It will be due to money and how much under/over budget each deal is

Just read this, doesn't change my opinion. It feels like the club are trying to do things properly.TheRam wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 9:08 am https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/649959 ... ed_article
Doesn’t make for good reading at all.
As much as Everton would like to secure players for their priority positions, and are working to do so, there is an element of taking what you can get.
That’s an actual quote from the article.
Sounds like expectations in the club have sunk and we’re already scrambling around.
We've signed a decent backup keeper, and two players with good profiles in Barry and Alcaraz.
We might see us sign some of our second third and fourth choice players for the other position, but that's the position we're in.
We might have to settle for a mediocre season while we build slowly, that's the legacy of the Moshiri era.

Re: The Rebuild
Do people seriously believe we only work on one deal at a time? The same as people thinking we’ve not been looking at players prior to the window opening? Players and clubs are in no rush in the market we’re in, it’s just about being patient and waiting on the dominoes to start toppling.
Re: The Rebuild
Makes sense imo... You can get Luiz but it's say £30m, but if you do that then you can't get Doak (for example) because he's also £30m.sam of the south wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 10:51 am “we can't buy a winger until we've secured Luiz or walked away”
That’s mad.
We’ve got this whole transfer committee now, be a bit of a flaw in the make up of it if we can only do one deal at a time.
And they can’t be price dependant, surely everyone on our list for each position would be in a similar price bracket, or thereabouts.
However we might be able to get Luiz on loan but it depends on the fee, so we are then stuck in limbo with other signings until we know if / what this costs.
Get the loan done, money available for Doak.
Buy Luiz - no Doak.
No Luiz, buy Hackney - can't afford Doak but can get our 3rd option who's £20m.
If you've only got x amount you can't have several deals being done at the same time if they total more than that amount.
I think there's a good argument about whether you let a deal hold up then getting others done, but Moyes probably thinks Luiz is a genuine game changer for us and will wait to see if it can be done as the positives outweigh the negatives.

Stop writing Doak, it sounds insane on repeat like that!AjaxAndy wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 11:24 am Makes sense imo... You can get Luiz but it's say £30m, but if you do that then you can't get Doak (for example) because he's also £30m.

Re: The Rebuild
I wouldn't say it was anything earth shattering, I'm not a journalist or have any inside connections to the club but I said about ten pages back that I didn't think the club would see RB as a major priority with Coleman, Patterson, O'Brien able to play there, even Garner can play there as a last resort. Patterson played LB against Accrington and I think that was partly to see if we need cover at LB or we can get around it with Patterson and Coleman perhaps covering it and concentrate on other areas than LB and RB.TheRam wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 9:48 am Is it really a nothing article or does it just say things you’d like to ignore?
Paddy boyland has been tempering expectations all summer through his articles and podcast.
I’m more inclined to believe this than another “£150m war chest” article
Signs have been there from the off that were not confident of having a great summer.

Re: The Rebuild
I genuinely didn't see any remote cause for alarm in that article at all.
It's just saying what we all know. We're not top of the food chain, so we're not going to get our 1st choice signing for every position.
Of course we aren't.

Re: The Rebuild
If £150m is war chest, then it’s a shit one. Like the Falklands. Most clubs will spend £100m+ this summer.

Re: The Rebuild
Let’s break it down, that’s three £30m and three £20m players, sounds good to me, especially with a few loans/freebies.

I don't understand why it sounds insane to write someone's last name haha, would it have been better if I'd written 'Fellows' instead?sam of the south wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 11:34 am Stop writing Doak, it sounds insane on repeat like that!

Re: The Rebuild
Yeah, much better.
“Doak” sounds fairly amusing said once, but three times in a row just got farcical in my head

Re: The Rebuild
We all knew we would be "taking what we could get" and without key members of back office staff this late in the window? Having missed out on top targets? With barely enough first XI players to fill a side? We knew this?
