Tyler Dibling
Re: Tyler Dibling
Yeah, this is a great signing if we end the window with the players we actually need now (by hook or by crook).
As long he is not at the expense of filling one of the gaping holes we have, then sound.

Can’t say I’m overly excited by the prospect of signing the young lad. Hope I’m proved wrong if we do get him.

Definitely wasn't a criticism, I'd be the same.American Evertonian wrote: ↑Fri Aug 01, 2025 6:25 pm I can’t be too thrown by that. If I was 16 and had to leave all my friends and family I probably wouldn’t love it either. He’s a PL player now so I’m sure he has matured and realized he needs to move somewhere.

Don't know what pre season games you lot have been watching but he seams far superior to anything that i have seen.Big Nevs Vaz wrote:Can’t say I’m overly excited by the prospect of signing the young lad. Hope I’m proved wrong if we do get him.

Re: Tyler Dibling
I can see the reasoning behind a signing like this if it’s circa £35m. He’s widely regarded as being exceptionally talented but we wouldn’t get a look in if he was a sure thing. We’re going big and early in the hope that it pays off rather than getting someone who’s a more known quantity but doesn’t get us past mid table.

Re: Tyler Dibling
Also having a season in the premier under his belt, he’s probably seen as less of a risk vs the likes of Kubo, Fofana and Fellows.
Kubo and Fofana likely have a higher ceiling.
Kubo likely pays for itself with shirt sales and a tour to Japan/Asia next summer.

Re: Tyler Dibling
Kubo and Fofana have to want to come here though, it's too risky at this point, with the squad the way it is, to play chicken waiting until the end of the transfer window.Free Agent wrote: ↑Sat Aug 02, 2025 6:41 am Also having a season in the premier under his belt, he’s probably seen as less of a risk vs the likes of Kubo, Fofana and Fellows.

Dibling is a safer bet in terms of getting it done earlier. Fellows I like but he's a right footed right winger, which I don't think we're after.

Heaven forbid we have a right footer in the side, anywhereThe Doc wrote: ↑Sat Aug 02, 2025 6:45 am Kubo and Fofana have to want to come here though, it's too risky at this point, with the squad the way it is, to play chicken waiting until the end of the transfer window.

I’d fucking love a right footed right winger personally

1000% this!
I hate hate hate seeing lefties on the right, a big reason Harrison flopped here, and as for McNeil playing there

Re: Tyler Dibling
At this point we could get anyone in and they would probably be an improvement. All I am saying is from what I have seen of Dibling and particularly in the second half of last season I am not completely sold on him. He’s talented but this one is not without the usual risks.youngysenior wrote: ↑Fri Aug 01, 2025 11:35 pm Don't know what pre season games you lot have been watching but he seams far superior to anything that i have seen.

Re: Tyler Dibling
Yeah he might be great and return a 50m profit but he more likely will not and sit on the bench for 3 years and be sold for 15m, or somewhere in between. 19, he's a huge gamble, at that price point based on his development and experience to date. We're betting on being able to coach him into the player we'd want and seeing him grow as a man who really wants to hit the heights of his potential too, he is still just a kid.
I see our journey back to the top as 3 stages... 1.Establish ourselves top half, 2.Establish ourselves regularly in the top 6... where Moyes left us, 3 a crack at top 4 and the title. As we progress the revenue and the players will come but I think we need to realise where we are now and not be trying to jump a stage. I think there will be other kids out there at 5-10m that we should be buying maybe a season off where dibling is. Buy 4 or 5 of then, turn 1 or 2 into Dibling's hype level, then either sell and reinvest or fight to keep them.
I known it sounds simplistic, like these players fall off trees but surely for every 1 player who is in the shop window there must be another 10, sat in the back. We need the best scouting system around to be ahead of the curve, thats what we did under Moyes last time on a minimal net spend and its the only model I see working.

If those players move to us that early they won’t get minutes and then won’t develop into the players that they could be.Matt1878 wrote:Yeah he might be great and return a 50m profit but he more likely will not and sit on the bench for 3 years and be sold for 15m, or somewhere in between. 19, he's a huge gamble, at that price point based on his development and experience to date. It’s incredibly rare to have players develop just from sub minutes and reserve games, they need to be playing week in week out somewhere.
Look at that Oscar Bobb at Man City, incredibly highly rated and has got decent bench minutes but he’s 22 now and hasn’t kicked on. Had he been playing week in week out at a lower level he’d be on a better path IMO.
We can’t afford to buy them and loan them as we need the squad numbers but not can we buy them and play them as they’re not ready yet
Re: Tyler Dibling
Dibling got a full season out of Southampton to get to where he is now, and regards Oscar Bobb if he would have progressed far more playing at a lower level than Man City's bench, well thats where we are today, we are that option.StirlingBlue wrote: ↑Sat Aug 02, 2025 10:35 am If those players move to us that early they won’t get minutes and then won’t develop into the players that they could be.

I see a model of building a reliable squad based on premier league mid-table journeymen at the right price (Bent, Kilbane, Carsley), interspersed with young emerging talent (Cahill, Stones, Coleman) at a good price, competing with each other for time off the bench with the cream forcing their way into starting XI. I'd rather see a 5 year plan basically, than the Moshiri approach of spend, spend and hope for a miracle season. All opinions of course, I'm just happy to play the long game and see steady growth, season on season.

Re: Tyler Dibling
Yeah. We don’t really have a playable attacking right back to take advantage of the space created when a lefty drifts infield. Patterson can’t defend (and is now getting outpaced by centre backs in preseason), Coleman is old and can’t stay fit (and probably can’t even get up and down the pitch anymore for more than a half).
Having a true right winger who can go down the line would have really balanced us out last season.
This is why I thought Fellows made sense for us, especially since he has some demonstrated competence as a crosser.

Re: Tyler Dibling
I think it only works when you have overlapping fullbacks which we don’t. It becomes too narrow when you have a left footed player on the right and the defense doesn’t have to worry about a full back bombing down the wing.Bluebridge wrote: ↑Sat Aug 02, 2025 8:05 am 1000% this!
