He's capable of better, but that was probably his worst game for us.

Seemed a weirdly not-Beto like performance as you expect him to at least be putting the effort in, but he didn't seem to be pressing as much.

It's annoying because I think he's fucking awful, then he scores a bunch of goals and looks decent holding it up and I start to think 'fuck it let's just stick with him, maybe he's figured things out', and then he chucks in performances like that and I just think he's utter garbage again.

He's Jelavic. If he's not scoring goals he's not really contributing. You either go with that or you don't play him. We didn't create a chance for him, his hold up play isn't really a thing and he looked knackered from the first minute.

I’m kind of stunned by the lack of effort tonight.

Can forgive him being a bit crap at times if he at least puts himself about and is a nuisance.

There’s no excuse for playing a full 90’ on your heels though.

IMO his body is on Merseyside but his spirit has jetted back to Italy

I was confused by the lack of energy, it's the one thing he usually has in abundance

Grealish must be creasing up inside.

Easiest one two ever and he acts like he's never seen a football.

Moyes has ruined what was good about him. Was always the worry that he'd tell him to stop the strong running in behind and instead make him at best an average target man. That's not Beto's game and it never will be.

Hopefully it was just this game, as we obviously did get some great games with Beto under Moyes after Dyche left.

However yes, if this is how we plan to use him it's pointless. I genuinely haven't seen much of Barry yet to think he's really up to the DCL role if you will...if that's what Moyes wants then we don't really have that player.

Beto has only been good under Moyes so I'm not sure this checks out tbh

Riding the wave last season. Took him in pre-season and tried to turn him into something he's not. I get it because Beto in his original guise wasn't good enough to be in the Premier League team despite the goals he scored, but he's just not good enough to be a hold-up striker. Should have just got rid of him rather than remove the one part of his game he was decent at.

Got a tune out of him last season by exploiting those runs, so this just isn’t true.

Fact is a premier league striker needs to be able to do both if he’s leading the line for a mid table side.

I'm not saying it happened last season. We've seen it through pre-season and we saw it tonight. Very little running in behind from him and a lot of him trying and failing to hold the ball up. Moyes has seen DCL go and knows he can't afford to have Beto the way he was.

I agree with you. Beto is never going to be able to do it, so now he's just a useless asset that is destined to fail and be sold for £10m back to Italy next summer, if that.
