If it helps at all I didn't want him whatsoever in the first place so actually before any games?

He was a bit part nothing player at Chelsea and we were daft enough to give them their money back for him.

For someone of his age and the money spent on him he’s played very little premier league football.

Whilst people shouldn’t be writing him off, others shouldn’t be saying he’s going to be a fan’s favourite and transform our midfield.

He’ll have a lot of adjusting to do to play every game in a premier league campaign.

Would much rather see him deeper than in the ten.

At the risk of going it eventually around in circles, it is shame there has never been an example of one player not fitting in the club he is at only to be better at the next club. It was one game, the whole side was a shambles last night, only 9 days ago people were saying what a difference he'll make. But to write him off after one game while it might be (sometimes) the NSNO way is madness, I would rather judge him after more than one game, in a side that isn't filled with square pegs in round holes.

I'll also add, if he wasn't a bit part nothing player at Chelsea, he'd still be there or he'd be at a bigger club than Everton, we're not viewed as much more than a bit part nothing club by outsiders.

He might prove to be worth the money but it's more luck than judgement. Like you say we've overpaid for his age experience and proven talent. It doesn't seem like good scouting to just give cheslea their money back for someone who didn't do much there

I actually agree. I just don't think you pay a premium for that. 30m and probably 100k a week for someone who's good record is in the championship

Not fancying him now is no different to calling him a baller(whatever that may be) after one friendly.

If only we had the entirety of his career to judge him off

I reckon the two positions with the biggest impact in a game like last night for us is DM and striker, and we had two stinkers in there. Tim is way below the bar and Beto had a bad one.

KDH looked a bit flimsy, but last night wasn't a functioning team.

In fairness it was hard to judge anyone based on that mess last night. Too many square pegs, no one looked comfortable and even Ndiaye and Grealish didn’t really do much of anything either and they’re likely our best players.

That said a few more games like that and he’ll have a hard time shifting the perceptions of those dubious about the signing in the first place. The formation can be a valid excuse but you still look to the player to make the best of a bad situation and impose themselves on the game a bit more.
