European fixtures mean that Champions League teams can't play Europa League teams. Absolutely nothing stopping the CL teams playing each other or the EL teams playing each other though. It’s because the CL is split over two weeks? So if Arsenal played one week and Chelsea the next in the CL, if they drew each other in the league cup then there’s not a free game week for the match to be played? That was my vague understanding of the bullshit excuse
