PSR is a question of expenditure against club turnover, not player purchases versus sales. So if we made £50m during those 4 years and we spent it all on Sigurdson then thats ok PSR wise as long as we dont buy any other players that our revenue wont allow. Of course that wasnt the case and we got shafted for it.

So as I was saying, "profit" or "loss" is semantics really, my point was 8m for the remaining 2 years of his contract was a good deal, given the value of those 2 years.
You cant keep going like this though. Remaining within the rules allows ridiculous losses every year, when we need to be looking to break even at worst. We need to make an overall profit on player sales, which involves selling players for more than we paid, not their amortised value.

Yeah, obviously £20m for a £15m player who hasnt scored in 2 years in mainly sub appearances and is out of contract in 2 years would be great. But in lieu of that £8m isn't bad for a perceived 'failure', half way through his contract.

We may need to develop and sell on our 'successes' for more than we bought them, as you say, but in an ideal world we're keeping hold of talent and boosting our club revenue through Gates receipts, tv rights sponsorship, etc, rather than buying to sell in the transfer market. That's the ideal for me. 🙂

Good luck to the lad.

I was quite surprised when he first signed as that was at the time Everton were at the lowest PSR-wise and he cost quite a bit for a 19 year old who wasn’t really an exceptional player at all at Sporting and at a time when we were reliant on an injured DCL up front.

Injuries haven’t helped him and he’s not been able to go out on loan for regular games. I do find it odd Rangers were willing to spend a significant amount on him despite injuries and lack of goals, I’ve heard the fee could rise up to £14m which would mean we get our money back.

Feels like it is almost certainly a Thelwell signing who knows him well but still a huge gamble for Rangers

Our poor record of investing in young attacking talent is offset by our decent record with young defenders.
