Michael Keane
Re: Michael Keane
4 games vs 8 years worth
Even the worst players have purple patches.
An atrocious player who I can't wait to see the back of.

Re: Michael Keane
It’s not a matter of changing opinion, the comments were that he shouldn’t be praised now for playing well because of his reputation.TheRam wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2025 12:47 pm Why change a long term opinion over five games worth of evidence?
It goes both ways this debate. He has one ok game at the start of the season and people are already going over the top with him.
Tarkowski has been just as good, if not better than Keane but that never gets acknowledged because he’s consistently good, whereas expectations with Keane are on the floor.
He’s played well, and is playing the 4th choice centre back role as he should, but I’d still rather have a proper right back and obrien getting minutes at centre half so am not going to change my mind on the contract.
People should probably just expect that he’s been a disappointment for a long time and it will take a lot for peoples opinions to be changed.
He’s liable to fuck up at some point (as would most 4th choice players or they wouldn’t be 4th choice) but surely that doesn’t mean it can’t be appreciated when he plays well.
Re: Michael Keane
A bit harsh, no? Perception of him is definitely skewed by the contract/wage he's on being far above is value.
Re: Michael Keane
I'm happy with how he is playing at the moment and can't argue he is doing well, but the sample size of his time here is too large.
Never been a good defender.
All of his memories and moments with us have all come in the final 3rd.
Long may this form continue of course but can't wait until he is gone.

Tarkowski has made multiple mistakes which had it been Keane would have been used as a stick to beat him with
He's our 4th centre half which you insisted we didn't need. He's played really well this season and 2 games of last. You don't have to change your opinion of him as a player but hes due plenty of praise (more so if you have a low opinion of him) and maybe you can soften your opinion of him as a 4th centre half for a midtable team sometime soon

Re: Michael Keane
Yep leaving it to the full back who was much better placed to deal with it. The full back then shepparded it for as long as possible allowing them to score. Nowt to do with Keane. Least not unless you think he should defend based on the assumption someone else won't do a much easier job
Re: Michael Keane
Bizarre that it's even being discussed, I thought it would happen when he fucked up but not when he's playing very well. He's like a lightning rod to some of you and it's not like you're adding anything new or interesting to the discussion.

Re: Michael Keane
It’s just that his mistakes are not just something like a slip, more like throwing the ball in his own net. Plays well in some games, great in a few, proper technique for a CB that not many even in the PL have, but his mistakes are absolute catastrophes.
And then his head melts.
Everyone’s happy he’s playing so well right now, but some of us have had enough of being hurt by him in the past.

Re: Michael Keane
Exactly Todd.
Its a bit over the top to be all fucking righteous cos hes played well for a few games.
Of course were all made up and hope it continues. Its not like everyone will turn when a teeny mistake (everyone was screaming about Tark fucking up btw as well)
But when Keane fucks up....he Fucks. Up. He costs us goals....not always directly but he causes mass panic when he is on one.

Re: Michael Keane
Any stats showing errors leading to goals or some opta related shenanigans...? Just to be a bit more scientific about it?
There's always going to be a player who divides fan's opinions and there's always going to be fans who are more glass half full or half empty. Keano threads should probably come with a trigger warning.

Re: Michael Keane
It was one comment and most have said he’s played well but would like a longer term run of form from him which has not happened for a long time.NickNack wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2025 1:46 pm It’s not a matter of changing opinion, the comments were that he shouldn’t be praised now for playing well because of his reputation.

Re: Michael Keane
He hasn’t been given the longer term run that people want to see him perform in, he spent last season on the bench. Where he has played this season , 5 games he has performed well,MOTM in one, just don’t understand why people are just waiting for him to make a mistake ? The fume from some on here that he was given a 1 year extension has now proven to be unfounded as Branthwaite is made of glass and tbh not sure he walks straight back into the starting 11.

Re: Michael Keane
It’s not just the mistake though - it’s what immediately follows. If anyone else makes a mistake, I back them to be furious with themselves and take the situation head-on trying to do better.Escalator wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2025 6:08 pm He hasn’t been given the longer term run that people want to see him perform in, he spent last season on the bench. When Keane makes a mistake, he goes into his shell, meaning a goal given away can quickly turn into a game given away.
This will go on until he is substituted and will continue in subsequent games afterwards until he gets over it.
It’s never a simple mistake on its own, it’s always a hole in defence for the next 3-5 games and that is unacceptable at this level.
Re: Michael Keane
That’s quite an amateur psychologists assessment ! I find your view that he is then the sole reason that we then lose a game once he has made a mistake (not that any other players ever make mistakes) a little difficult to accept.Toddacelli wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2025 6:36 pm It’s not just the mistake though - it’s what immediately follows.
