My second tier of FOATS would be Michael Laudrup, Pavel Nedved, and Hristo Stoichkov.

Not sure that works, a highlights reel won’t show you how Maradona brought two Serie A titles to Napoli, a team that had never won a title. In fact, the first team south of Rome to ever win a title. That was Maradona playing with a cocaine addiction.

Going further back there isn’t enough footage to put together a highlights reel to show the true brilliance of the likes of Best, Eusebio and Bobby Moore. Moore spent most of his career at West Ham and a few sunset seasons at Fulham. Football was a much more “local” sport then so you have to rely on the written word and testimonials of his contemporaries to appreciate just how good he was.

Messi I reckon but some honourable mentions not in the poll. I was a huge fan of Lothar Matthaus thought he was superb.

Think Rooney is the closest and English player gets to it.
