Yeah I'm sticking by what I said actually, it's not nice.
Beto doesn't seem like the player who would respond well to that and not sure about why anyone would think he would?
He seems a confidence player and needs an arm round not spouting randomly after games.
We won't know if it's good or bad thing but I just think, we have scored a last minute winner, and it's now international break.
Don't put a downer on him. When there is no need
I don’t think it’s a case of nice or not nice.
It might be if it was kids football or mates having a kickabout but in this context, no.
He’s not having an opinion about Beto, he’s an employer in a highly competitive performance-based industry giving feedback to an employee because both their jobs depend on it.
It’s perfectly acceptable to set standards and discuss when performance falls short. It may be a game to us but it’s a job to them.
Could understand if it was a throwaway one off comment, but he's done it a few times. Surely being consistently told you're a bit shit is going to play on anyone's mind however much you try to use it as motivation. Just think it's a bit uncalled for from your manager.

100% agree. If Moyes HAD publicly called him “a bit shit” that would have been uncalled for. I’m with you on that one, no doubt. We are aligned.

Obviously not literally but that's how it might feel when someone's consistently digging you out in the media. Just keep it behind close doors don't tell the world!

What about the message to the rest of the players though, or the fans? Because that’s also Moyes doing his job.
If players know they will face criticism if they don’t meet standards, this is a motivating factor for many.
If the manager does not recognise when we fall short and keeps telling fans that it’s ok and were trying and doing the right things all the time, this will very quickly create a toxic atmosphere that will largely be aimed at the players and they will cop a load of flack.
If the fans think the manager doesn’t know a player is poor they will be very vocal about it.
Publicly setting standards and saying NSNO is not just ok, I think it’s extremely important.

He's not constantly digging him out in the media though, he's both praised him and criticised him... I'd argue he's said more of the former than the latter.
But also he's scored once in the league this season, so when he misses a huge chance to win a game I think it's fair for Moyes to challenge him to put them away in future.
Under performing players shouldn't be immune to being challenged to perform at the levels they've shown previously, and that's what it is at the end of the day, not criticism but a challenge.
Absolutely he should have buried it and it would have been great for him to score it we got lucky with the deflection off Jack but need to be way more clinical we looked way better with charly in the 10 and ndayie on the wing
Nah the header was tougher than it looked, 2 players back on the line and the keeper to beat. Did nothing wrong imo. Barry missed an easier chance earlier Saturday when he totally missed the ball, Moyes said nothing about that, in fact it's barely been mentioned in general. It's a tactic from Moyes because he thinks the criticism will get the best out of Beto. I don't think its working you can see his head down at times. Moyes doesn't seem to single out anyone else which I find strange and I think overly harsh on Beto.

He said Grealish needed to score more goals a few days prior so I'm not sure he's really singling Beto out.
It just feels more like with Grealish it's a little prod to encourage him whereas with Beto he's throwing down the gauntlet to bury the chances because he's the senior pro and should be more reliable.
I think both approaches are thought out by the manager to get the best out of each player, rather than any knee jerk negative reaction.
Yeah I hope so. Obviously Moyes knows more about what is most effective, but Beto strikes me as someone who needs an arm around the shoulder rather than telling him to try harder. Based on nothing at all, obviously!!

We're all guessing really, and we're probably a bit biased by how we'd like to be treated in that scenario.
