Beto is the third best striker in the league for XG so yeah our lack of a reliable finisher is killing us.
That’s a pretty shocking stat really isn’t it. It shows that without the ball Beto does great work in getting himself in the right place to score. He’s just inept at the part when he does have the ball.
And when Barry replaces him, all our forward momentum seems to just fall apart and we hardly see him with any clear cut chances in front of goal.
I thought initially Barry was unfortunate, the team around him not giving him the same chances they give to Beto, but now I realise he just doesn’t get involved enough to make these chances possible.
It will be criminal if we lose Ndiaye or Grealish and we never gave them a proper target man to link up with.
Remember when we all thought he was a proper finisher.
Tbf to him he's bagged in the prem. He's bagged in Italy. He's got good movement and he gets shots off. Sometimes strikers are patchy and I don't think Everton is a very conducive environment to goal scoring, but the true nature of Beto is probably somewhere in between what we've seen and what we're seeing.
That said he's also crap, and won't be here next year so like...whatever. fingers crossed on Barry but his ticket looks marked already tbh.
the only things that i think will be to our advantage is that they are still getting used to playing in europe then the prem on a sunday - teams performances do suffer with the extra pyhsical and mental effort put in in midweek
and
we are at the BMD - jack is back with kdh
a draw at the very least or possible close victory here
i know spurs are better away from home under frank but these factors as mentioned above may just tip the game in our favour
Beto’s offball work is fantastic. Some of the runs he makes is as good as any striker you will see and he clearly has a great reading of the game. But he doesn’t make the most of it with his ability on the ball. His lack of a finish is really holding him and the team back.
We said the same thing with Dom. Everything is great until that finish, which really is the main thing for a striker. Without the goals, what’s the point. That said, I think he is better than DCL. He looks more dangerous and gets into good positions, because he likes to play on the last man. DCL dropped too deep and hated that roll of balls being played in behind to run onto.
Beto has the capability at least of getting on a run of scoring goals. He will bag a few soon. I hope.
He does have good movement and he gets shots off but his ability to occupy defenders and hold the ball up, win flick one - absolutely no where near Dom.
On specific occasions he can get himself into one v one physical bully battles (eg. We've seen v van dijk or konate) and he actually does a great job at those. But consistently giving the team time space and angles to play from he's poor.

To be fair, even if he won flick ons, there's nobody to flick on too as he gets quite isolated
One of the best off the ball runs I’ve seen Beto make was against city early on last week started blind side of the defender.. ran the line in front of the defender and took him towards the ball….then cut back in behind the defender towards goal….the ball in from Ndiaye was perfect….unfortunately Beto slightly hesitated on his run in to meet the ball and missed it…..sums him up really…
The positive was he made “the perfect” centre forward movement…..so perhaps he’s learning (from someone?)
His attitude is still he has to be fighting for the ball in ad around the box so picks up the defenders….
For me I’d sit him down and tell him to watch Haaland off the ball movement for his 2 goals….perfection…
And hope he gets the point and learns…..
