I think we did that fabled scouting lark with Barry, and he’s already being labelled a flop by quite a lot of the fanbase.777Kidnappings wrote: ↑Sun Oct 26, 2025 9:08 am Would rather we just did some competent scouting. Going nowhere paying over the top for good rather than great players

Re: Toney
We are meant to get them right. Plenty of time but anyone who claims they haven't been very disappointed so far is lyingsam of the south wrote: ↑Sun Oct 26, 2025 12:29 pm I think we did that fabled scouting lark with Barry, and he’s already being labelled a flop by quite a lot of the fanbase.
Re: Toney
Barry has been crap but yeah plenty of time for him to come good... As it stands being asked to step in because Beto is shit isn't really fair on him or an indication of what he's capable of down the line.
He's got a lot to learn and needs to adapt to the Premier League, it's just a shame we aren't able to give him a good environment to do that because someone at some point decided spending £25m on Beto was a sensible move.

There is plenty of time but we did need players who could contribute now too.AjaxAndy wrote: ↑Sun Oct 26, 2025 1:32 pm Barry has been crap but yeah plenty of time for him to come good... Time will tell on all our signings but if they are investments in the future then you hope they end up worth much more than we paid. I have serious doubts that Barry will ever be a 40m plus player or dibbling 50m plus. Already feels like we might be hoping they develop into being worth what we paid.
I think more than anything though its not a judgement on the individuals. Its about how wise it is to spend the vast majority of our money on players who can't get in our team

Yeah, I think both are true.777Kidnappings wrote: ↑Sun Oct 26, 2025 1:24 pm We are meant to get them right. Plenty of time but anyone who claims they haven't been very disappointed so far is lying
We’d all be lying if we said we didn’t hope (possibly expect) more, but also that a young striker, who’s had one season in a decent but very different league from the epl, should be given a fair chunk of time before being written off.

Re: Toney
I think he might go back to London and link up with Thomas Frank.
That would pave the way for Richarlison to come to us on loan.
Still need another, someone like Thomas Muller who is currently playing in the MLS surely fancies a 6 month stint here.

Re: Toney
Lookman and Kean but they took a long time
The truth is we haven't been a good place to play in recent years but we have also just signed an absolute pile of shite
Re: Toney
Unless we got a journeyman striker we were never in a position to afford a starting striker, so we went for someone who'd scored double figures in a top league with bags of potential... Speaking of which if he scored a similar amount here in a season or two's time he'd be worth probably far more than £40m.777Kidnappings wrote: ↑Sun Oct 26, 2025 1:50 pm There is plenty of time but we did need players who could contribute now too.

Time will tell but I think it was probably the best we could do at the time with potential high rewards but obviously some risk attached.

Re: Toney
He went to Saudi at his age, i don't think he cares if the money is right.
I'd have him in a flash though. Type of player we are missing and I am fed up with thinking nahh he's a can't don't want him here, then another team takes said player and does well.
We need a scoring striker and he scores goals.

I mean at Everton. They don't tend to turn it around do they?777Kidnappings wrote: ↑Sun Oct 26, 2025 2:19 pm Lookman and Kean but they took a long time
