I don’t think this is a bad spell for him unfortunately.

This is probably what he is as a striker now he has a lot of injuries on the clock.
I think Ancelotti kept it pretty simple for him, most his goals came from being a poacher in the 6 yard box. Plus we had good set piece deliveries at that point which also played to his strengths. He’s never been one that’s particularly good at one on ones or hitting them from even from around the outside of the box, his best work has always been much, much closer to goal.

For me he’s still good at bringing others into the game, being physical and he’s a poacher. For those things, he’s upper PL levels. Asking him to bend one in from the edge of the box, it’s just not his game and in that regard his level is lower.

Also why we benefited from having players like Rodriguez who could do that as it kept the opposition guessing and made us less one dimensional.

Nah, he’s definitely got a level above what we’re seeing right now. Agree with you though that he probably won’t hit ‘under Carlo’ levels again.

Really need the next half-mil striker from the Championship to be coming through into the first team any day now.

Think he's arriving in the box too late in open play to be poaching many, wether that's what the manager wants and it's tactical who knows , which ever it's not working for the team or him.

Absolutely has to be scoring though.
When it’s played through Martinez turns around and runs back to his goal, he isn’t even looking at DCL at that point

Very telling that he was hooked rather than Beto.

More a resting I assume?

I didn’t see the second half so can’t comment on performances but I gathered dyche would rather keep DCL fit which is why he was brought off?

I don't know, could be I suppose. Beginning to think he's maybe going to be a two season wonder, started about 15 games last season and only scored two or three and he's looked poor most of this season too. Could be injuries, could be confidence, could be a few things but he doesn't look anything like getting back to something decent. I know people will blame the style of play or the manager and it'll be everyone else's fault but a top striker will still make things happen and creates chances.

Hopefully he can find something, we're seriously shite up front at the moment.

When he first came back he was really good but missed everything. Now he's just a bit shit and missing everything. Really apart from a couple of purple patches he's always been a bit of a shit finisher.

Formation really didn't help him today, asking him to drop deeper and link play isn't his game. Couldn't ask Beto to do that though given the whole not being able to control a ball problem.

Definitely needs to find some form, but I don't think his role today helped him one bit.

Don't think he can play in a 2. Him and richarlison had next to no understanding

Well he needs to start playing in some sort of formation as he’s letting the team down now, it’s getting beyond a joke.

Is he going to have a proper shit season as well as running his contract down? Sounds about right.
