Re: Michael Keane
I mean it's not surprise that we get turned over and people want to highlight keane, the dislike runs deep and he will always polarise our fanbase. He made one last ditch tackle in the first half and someone behind me lost it at when people clapped, literally shouting "don't clap for that useless fucker".
But he was no worse than anyone else in that back four, arguably better if anything, and nobody is posting in their threads to single them out for blame.
As much as people are being over the top with praise at times (and I honestly think that claim is exaggerated), it's only because expectations were through the fucking floor and he's managed to become our most consistent defender this season. For whatever reason, there's some people on here who absolutely hate that.
It's like watching people who hate a co-worker or spouse for years and years, and the resentment just builds up to the point where everything they do and say is viewed through a filter.

Re: Michael Keane
Think when you lose 4-1 the centre halves are going to come in for some stick.
He was great at United when it was all back to the walls stuff, but when asked to play on the front foot he was all over the place.
Both him and tarkowski are a massive problem and we need ti get to Brathwaite and job as soon as.

Re: Michael Keane
Can't defend Keanes performance against Newcastle it was piss poor. Either of them needs a more mobile partner don't care who. I still think if we had a right back o Brien might get a look

Re: Michael Keane
Reminds me of being a kid playing football on the park. I went in goal for a bit and conceded a shit load. Not because I was shit as such, but because the rest of my team were only focusing on scoring for the glory. My screams of get back, get back ignored, but it was my fault we lost

Re: Michael Keane
He can’t play high line football either can tark they don’t have the pace but Keane turns like an oil tanker can’t wait to get Jared back some pace and badly needed quality
Re: Michael Keane
Would trust tark more as he has been able to play it a few times and has been really good at winning it high up the pitch.
I worry he’s completely finished though. He’s been terrible this season.

Re: Michael Keane
Dunno, if Pickford was not on it he gets criticism for some of those chances for me.TheRam wrote: ↑Mon Dec 01, 2025 6:59 am Think when you lose 4-1 the centre halves are going to come in for some stick.

Re: Michael Keane
Tarkowski has been much worse than Keane this year. Even seems slower than Keane honestly.
Either way, Branthwaite is back in when he's fit and would even be nice to have JOB get a chance there as he's quicker than both Tarks and Keane and he's our long term solution. Need an actual RB to be brought in though.

Re: Michael Keane
All about partnerships at CB, isn't it? I wasn't particularly impressed with the Branthwaite-JOB duo at the back-end of last season and I think we've seen enough to know Branthwaite and Tarkowski complement each other pretty well.
Re: Michael Keane
I think he's been at the scene of the crime for a number of near misses myself, keano.
Can't wait to see the back of him myself.

Re: Michael Keane
He correctly got a load of plaudits for the United game, not letting the Gana thing go to his head etc.
And he did have a good game.
But the thing I noticed second about that Pickford save (after the mind-blowing save itself), is just how easily Keane was outjumped by Zirkzee to get a shot off on target.
Pickford had zero right to get anywhere near that. 99 times out of a hundred we're looking at Keane for not stopping that goal.
Re: Michael Keane
Nah he's been sound for the vast majority of games, let's not retrospectively start saying he hasn't been very good this season.
Doesn't change that Tarkowski and Keane together aren't a long term partnership that works like.

Re: Michael Keane
I genuinely don’t think he’s been very good.
Defensively our numbers are poor. Two out our last three home games we’ve conceded three and four, twice a centre half has got a brace.
For me, he’s been ok, and I do think as expectations are so low with him, the reaction to his performances has been a bit over the top.
He’s had some very good games, but other than United I don’t think we’ve ever looked solid at the back.
He’s probably been our best defender, but it’s not saying much when you see how bad mykolenko and tarkowski have been.
Obrien is doing the best he can out of position.
I can’t believe the only defender we signed in the summer was a 19 year old who’s not premier league ready and we’re starting to pay the price.
We’ve been let off in a lot of games and eventually it catches up to you.

Re: Michael Keane
I wouldn't disagree the rest of the defence have been very poor like (and O Brien definitely gets a pass). The failure to sign a right back remains the most ridiculous of things.
We are lucky we look decent enough going forward that we are likely to end mid table.

Re: Michael Keane
5th highest xg against in the league.
He's at the scene of the crime again and again. It's nothing we don't know about him.
Glad he's managed to play to the level he's played at, can't wait to see him go.
Dreadful sign for Jake imo as well. Must be a bang bang average CB if you can't get in past Mick Keane in 2025.
